The horrendous ‘gender identity’ bill that the California legislature finally passed two weeks ago was just vetoed last night by Governor Gavin Newsom.
The bill would have forced a judge to consider whether a parent affirms their child’s so-called ‘gender identity’ when determining who gets custody.
🚨Wow🚨
Late on a Friday night, Gavin Newsom just vetoed AB 957, which would have required judges to remove custody of children from parents who don’t “affirm" a child's "gender identity or gender expression.” pic.twitter.com/fXfdYtBNS4

Newsom claimed in his letter justifying his veto that what the legislature had done, in dictating legal standards for the judiciary “in prescriptive terms that single out once characteristic”, could become a strategy used by ‘other-minded’ legislators in other states to “diminish the civil rights of vulnerable communities.”
Whatever the case, it’s great for Californians that this bill was vetoed. However, I should note that Democrats have supermajorities in both houses of the legislature so they can, if they choose, override this veto and make this bill law.
