Here’s a bit more from Fox News:

At least one New Jersey police officer was shot Tuesday by a suspect with a long gun, according to media reports.

Other officials told NBC New York that two officers were shot in Newark. The shooter was not in police custody, the news outlet reported, citing an unnamed source.

Reports said the gunfire came from a roof.

Fox News has reached out to the Newark Police Department.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said he was aware of the situation.

“I am aware of and closely monitoring an unfolding situation in Newark,” he tweeted. “I am in touch with local authorities and the State is providing resources as requested. We will continue to support local law enforcement and ensure that all residents are safe.”

UPDATE: The two officers who were shot are said to be alive:

State Assemblyman Ralph Caputo, D-Essex, who represents that area, said the gunman had a long gun he fired from a roof of a residential building in the South Ward. He said authorities have “shut everything down” in the neighborhood and are telling people to stay in their homes.

”There’s a lot of stress going on,” Caputo said.

He said both officers have been transported to University Hospital and are still alive, but the shooter had yet to be captured. Details about their conditions were not immediately available.

I’ll update this when I get more…
