BREAKING: ‘Heavily armed gunman’ shoots and kills NYPD sergeant, wounds another

An NYPD sergeant was shot and killed and another officer wounded when they rammed their car into a robbery suspect’s SUV and began a gunfight with the man.

From the New York Daily News:

An NYPD sergeant was killed Friday in a broad-daylight gun battle in the Bronx that left a second cop wounded and a heavily-armed robbery suspect dead, sources said.

The mortally-wounded officer was struck in the head about 3 p.m. near Beach Ave. in Parkchester while pursuing the gunman following a home invasion robbery, sources said.

The second sergeant was struck in the leg and is expected to survive.

The incident unfolded after the gunman barged into an apartment on Noble Ave. near Bronx River Ave., sources said.

The robbery victim reported that the suspect, identified as Manuel Rosales, was driving a red SUV.

The officers were inside a marked patrol car when they spotted the vehicle outside a storage facility on Bronx River Ave., sources said.

The officers rammed the SUV — setting off the gun fight.

Rosales was killed in the exchange of fire. Sources said he was carrying multiple guns.

Both officers were rushed to Jacobi Medical Center. The sergeant’s family were still en route to the hospital when he expired, sources said.

Awful. Pray for him and his family.
