Starting with the Mueller report, Trump is clearly having a great ‘news’ week. First he’s vindicated. Then word comes down that one billion has been transferred from Congress so he can put it to use building the wall.
Everything just seems to be going his way. And Michael Avenatti getting arrested was like icing on the cake.
Well today the House made an attempt to override Trump’s veto on their disapproval resolution of his national emergency, and it failed by almost 40 votes:
Hse fails to override veto of bill to terminate the national emergency for the wall. The vote was 248-181. Veto overrides need a two-thirds vote.
With 429 voting, they needed 286 yeas to override the President’s veto. That would be two-thirds. So, they were 38 votes short.— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) March 26, 2019
Of course this was expected all along. Short of a bunch of Republicans coming over to join Democrats, it was an impossible task.
14 Republicans did join Democrats, however:
All Democrats voted yea yea to override veto end national emergency. 14 Republicans voted yes.
