BREAKING: House Democrats vow to protect Speaker Johnson from MTG move to oust him

House Democrats have just released a statement vowing to project Speaker Johnson should MTG bring her motion to vacate Johnson to the floor.

House Democrat leadership writes: “We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed.”

Heather Caygle with Punch Bowl News says “This Dem leadership statement is really interesting bc it definitely doesn’t reflect caucus convo. Many in caucus were against tabling or want concessions. Another example of Dem leaders “hearing” out the caucus while having already actually made decision.”

So what deal did Johnson make with Democrats to get their protection? Was it getting the Ukraine aid passed? It has to be something because it’s not in their interest to protect Johnson and help Republicans maintain control over the House.
