The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ambushed and seized a foreign-flagged oil tanker this morning as it was traversing the Gulf of Oman.

The Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker, M/T Talara, was ambushed and seized this morning by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Gulf of Omen, after departing earlier from the Port of Ajman in the United Arab Emirates, for a short journey to Singapore.
The British maritime risk management group Vanguard reported that the Talara was surrounded by three fast-boats with the IRGC near the Strait of Hormuz roughly 20NM from the coast of the UAE, before contact was lost with the tanker and it deviated course heading in the direction of Iran.

The US Navy now says they are actively monitoring the situation.
We are aware of the incident involving the Marshall Islands-flagged M/V Talara. We are actively monitoring the situation. Commercial vessels are entitled to largely unimpeded rights of navigation and commerce on the high seas.

What ‘actively monitoring’ really means, I don’t know. But what I do know is that, after Trump blew the hell out of Iran’s nuclear facilities earlier this year, a statement like this should send shivers down the spines of these terrorists.
