BREAKING: New York Senate passes bill just so they can give Trump’s taxes to Congress

This is exactly what Trump was talking about when he said that Democrats were going to harass him. I believe his exact term for this was “presidential harassment”:

AUBURN PUB – New York’s Democrat-controlled Senate approved a bill easily Wednesday that would allow three congressional committees to get access to President Donald Trump’s state tax returns, giving Democrats a potential end-run around the administration’s refusal to disclose the president’s federal returns.

The bill, which now goes to the Democrat-led state Assembly, doesn’t target Trump by name, but would authorize state tax officials to release returns filed by seven different types of state and federal officeholders if requested by the leaders of the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee or the Joint Committee on Taxation.

The law would apply to returns filed by the U.S. president and vice president, U.S. senators, or the state’s governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general or comptroller.

It would include filings related to personal income taxes, real estate taxes and corporate income taxes and cover up to five years of returns before the person took office.

This is unbelievable. Democrats are hell bent on destroying Trump and they don’t care how hyper-partisan it makes them look.

Can you imagine something like this every happening to Obama? He refused to release his academic record and his birth certificate and to this day Democrats have never done anything even remotely like this to force the release of his private records.

It’s absolutely shameful and I have a strong feeling that it will only help Trump in 2020.

  1. This is totalitarianism by the bureaucracy run amok.
The Dems are so stupid. Nobody but Dems care about trump’s personal fortune or misfortunes.
What a shame… the deans are spending all of this time on Russia and Trump and not one minute on how to better this nation.
Well we know why, they only prosper when this nation does badly.

  2. I eagerly await the passage of this so the republicans can subpoena DeBlasio, Schumer, Bloomberg, etc. tax returns.

  3. Bridge too far – no one likes the government messing around with anyone’s taxes. Democrats are blowing this one big time. Which is okay in my book.

  4. While I am no fan of this president, any legislature or congress passing laws targeting an individual — even with the thin veil of applying it to a few other office holders — is egregious government over-reach.

If they think this sort of law is necessary, then make it applicable to anyone who files a return in New York from this date forward (not retroactively) — see how that affects NY based businesses when a committee chair can obtain personal financial records for fishing expeditions.

Chuck Grassley, current Senate Finance Committee Chair, should announce his intention to seek all returns for every Democrat covered by the bill.

  5. Those libturds are running scared because of AG Barr, and are grasping at any straw they can get.
They’d do the same in SanFran Nan’s district too, but straws are banned in California.
    😀

    1. Banning straws here in NY are in the works. They just banned all plastic bags and straws is on the chopping block along with styrofoam food containers that food places use. And you can’t get a 20 oz soda in New York City. We’re not grown up enough to know how much soda we want to drink…

      1. You can very very easily get a 20oz soda in NYC. I will pass at least seven places where I can buy them on my commute home tonight, which only includes half of one block zoned for commercial real estate (three newsstands, a Walgreens, a cvs, a pizza place, and a subway).

Edit: sorry, eight places, I forgot about the corner grocery. And, in the interest of full disclosure, technically the Walgreens and the subway are on the other side of the street, so I would have to cross the street to get to them).

  6. The State of NY need a reality check. Hopefully, someone will give it to them…………in spades.

    1. Oh you have no idea. They are all so butthurt here in NY that Hillary lost the election it really makes no sense.

  7. Seems a little excessive. If I were President, I’d just turn them over if the People asked. I have nothing to hide because I’m a decent and principled person, and maintaining a strong message of trust and transparency – even in my non-President personal affairs – would be a positive step for the nation.

But I’m not President. And I never will be. We don’t do decency and principle in American politics anymore. Just “in your face other tribe, nyaah maga!”

    1. Yes, BUT, it’s really no one’s business other than the IRS as to what Trump earns and if he is paying what he should. In addition, prior to becoming President, Trump – the man – was as much a brand as Xerox – so why would he release private info that might damage his brand?

      1. I think he should release his taxes. I also think it’s his decision, not anybody else’s and certainly not within the authority of the New York State Assembly.

I don’t care about his brand status or why he’s special, I care about the precedent of a state government exposing the private financial records of an individual because they hate him. That level of over-reach is insane.

I care about how this affects all citizens in the future and corrupts governance. This is weaponizing government, nothing less.

  8. As a native New Yorker, who would leave the state if I didn’t feed about 30 feral cats a day, I say vote trump 2020. As a Cruz supporter in 2016 I never thought I would be encouraging trump’s re-election.

    1. I’d like to invite you and your ~20 yankee feral cats to immigrate to Texas – just get them fixed.

      1. Howdy TXGRunner, y’all are so welcoming! I enjoyed your comment,

P.S. my ferals are fixed and when I feed them they listen with me to Mark Levin! My ferals are constitutional conservatives

  9. Democrats don’t care how hyper-partisan it makes them look because no matter what they do they think they won’t look partisan. They know the media controls how they look, and as long as they keep doing what the media wants they can get away with anything.

  10. If you needed another reason to leave NY, here’s one more. Sheesh. I can’t wait until it bites them in the butt.

  11. That would put Chuckles Schumer, and every single ny politician in the crosshairs! Get all of there taxes. Im sure Chuckles won’t mind! Democrats need to be taught a lesson either at the polls or the innocent hardworking Americans that they think they lord over.gloves off get in there face, they aren’t welcome here right maxipad? Harrass them where ever they are. Go to there homes, dox them! It’s time they reap what they sow.

  12. 3 minutes after it passes they need to go after Cuomo’s state tax records eith avengence.

    1. @plotevil But who is going to have power to do that in New York? Democrats surely control all of the entities it listed with the ability to do it. Probably the only way to stop this is taking it to the Supreme Court. This will never ever be used against a Democrat, and it will be used as a weapon against Republicans much in the same way they weaponized government against Trump.

      1. It doesn’t necessarily need to be someone inside NY. They’re looking to pass it where the feds can request it not a NY insider. That means anyone can request it. Maybe Texas can do it due to economical research of companies as a rue? Just saying if they pass laws to specifically go against their enemies they need to learn it has counter effects. Maybe they can do Hillary’s taxes too while she was senator to investigate wrong doing.

  13. “This is unbelievable. Democrats are hell bent on destroying Trump and they don’t care how hyper-partisan it makes them look.”

You can bet this won’t stop here. Democrats don’t like you? they’ll do whatever they darn well please to make you squirm. This harassment of the President has to stop. He WON! Get OVER IT!

  14. Yeah, this is a pathetic move to go after Trump. I don’t know that I have a problem with it though. If they feel they should have the right to view a candidate’s tax records…whoever it may be….then the logical step is to create legislation allowing them to do so. We know they will never use it on a Democrat.

The question is if it’s constitutional. I wouldn’t think it is and it should be challenged in court to shoot it down.

Trump should move all of his businesses out of liberal strongholds and not allow anyone to purchase the use of his brand (name) in those states.

    1. @friskycat I’m not a legal expert but that was my suggestion. I don’t think this is constitutional so I don’t see why it can’t be shot down in the courts.

  15. Don’t care about his tax returns. If he’s been fraudulent with them, trust me, the IRS will find it quicker than the accountants at CNN or any of us. If he found loopholes to avoid paying more taxes… good. Wish I had the same option. Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen kept bees and other animals on their property to obtain farm subsidies and pay less taxes on their mansions. While both of them are full of sh*t, if that law allows them to pay less in taxes, so be it.

    1. That is the point. The IRS has been auditing Trump’s returns for decades and had there ever been any illegal behavior, they would have charged him and tossed him into federal prison years ago. This has become a matter of an oppressive commie-socialist government in a progressive commie-socialist state targeting those they hate. I hope the family moves all of their businesses to Florida and tells New York to go to hell….well, it already has gone to hell, apparently.

  16. In six years Trump should move out of New York, and take up residency at Mara Lago. He has done. so much to bring in revenue, housing, tourism, hotels, and this is how they repay him…screw NY!

  17. In case the Dems don’t know. This is just going to make Trump look like an even bigger victim of political targeting. He’s been rightfully saying it for a few years now and the more information that drops out about the Russian investigation, the more he is proven to be directionally correct.
Another thing it is doing is solidifying the GOP. Barr is an establishment GOP and a trusted one at that. The shinanigans of holding him in contempt for refusing to break the law which congress has passed is the epitome of craziness and it only makes Trump seem even more sympathetic.
Also while Trump is trying to solve some problems…what is the other side doing? Anything to make the life of the average citizen better? Nope, they are so consumed with hatred of him that they cannot help themselves.
Let’s hope the average voter is paying attention to this garbage from the Dems.

    1. Yes, but it is painful to watch. I bet this is how the McCarthy trials were to watch… I know there were real Commies… but innocent people’s lives were hurt by the unbridled attacks… until it was just too much… which should happen in this situation too. No matter how much they hate Trump at some point regular freedom loving Americans are going to rise up and say STOP!

  18. That would put Chuckles Schumer, and every single ny politician in the crosshairs! Get all of there taxes. Im sure Chuckles won’t mind! Maybe they can do Hillary’s taxes too while she was senator to investigate wrong doing.

        1. @plotevil Ah, you caught me glossing over exactly which committees they were. My immediate assumption was they were New York government committees….except they aren’t. They want to give tax agencies in N.Y. the ability to release taxes to federal government committees. My bad.

The problem is that conservatives will view that as an abuse of power and will never utilize it. Maybe it’s time to stoop to their level and teach them a lesson?

  23. HOW IS THIS LEGAL???

If the oppressive government of New York can do this to a citizen they do not like, what is to stop them from doing it to EVERY person who dares to serve the nation?

All businessmen in New York need to leave right now. No business can trust or respect government in New York. By the time this gets to the SCOTUS, these evil basturds will have already released all of Trump’s tax returns, both federal and state, for as long as he has been an adult. THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED EVER….NOT IN AMERICA!

    1. All businessmen in New York need to leave right now.

      Yea, because that’ll happen.

It’s the financial/commercial center of the world.

    2. I guess this is one of those times when we might want that injunction power.

I agree that this cannot be constitutional. Perhaps it violates the 4th? Unreasonable search and seizure? And can they compel this for any US Senator, or just NY senators? I noticed NY reps are not listed, why?

      1. No this is almost certainly constitutional. Whether it’s wise is a different issue.

        1. @slantry I’m almost certain it’s unconstitutional on the federal level. I don’t know how that would apply to the states, but Congress would be circumventing the Constitution by going to the states to get the taxes anyway…albeit state taxes.

          1. No offense but you are almost certainly wrong. There is no fourth amendment issue here; Trump doesn’t own his tax returns, the state does.

            1. @slantry I wanted to look into this a little bit before I replied but didn’t get to it…so I’m not going to attempt a rebuttal.

However, can you honestly tell me that you believe they have a legitimate reason to get his taxes and that it’s not just a political witch hunt persecution? They refuse to accept Mueller’s decision and they will never stop. IMO this is an embarrassment to our justice system.

              1. I don’t know if I can tell you that the have no non-pretextual reason for wanting his taxes. I can tell you that I have no doubt that this law is constitutional.

              2. I didn’t say for sure that they had a legitimate reason, I said that this law was constitutional. That I am positive of.

    3. You think Amazon is thanking AOC for the boot? :silly: :silly: These people are so stupid!

    4. @charli It should be challenged in the courts because I don’t see how it’s constitutional. There’s probably no way to stop them from getting Trump’s records because the lower (liberal) courts will favor New York. They may even know the Supreme Court will kill it but it will be too late to prevent them from the entire reason for passing the legislation. One man.

  24. In case the Dems don’t know. This is just going to make Trump look like an even bigger victim of political targeting. He’s been rightfully saying it for a few years now and the more information that drops out about the Russian investigation, the more he is proven to be directionally correct.

  26. I absolutely HATE my state. NY is led by the stupidest, most corrupt people in this entire country except California. The number of helpless millennials churned out here is absolutely mind boggling.

    1. @kelli Now wait just a minute….I think NY just out-corrupted CA. Both stink, but this is beyond the pale.

  27. Those libturds are running scared because of AG Barr, and are grasping at any straw they can get.

          1. No, but I could get those at the subway, or the 711 a few blocks uptown.

The soda ban never actually became law.

  28. This is totalitarianism by the bureaucracy run amok.

      1. @sheerpolitics Funny you should say that because when I wrote it I thought hmmmmmmm maybe I shouldn’t’ say that. Then I thought better of it because I’m here among friends 😀

  37. I mean, Obama did release his birth certificate and his tax returns. And liberals haven’t been clamoring for Trump’s school records.

Note: I’m not expressing an opinion on the underlying bill. Which I think is a bit much.

    1. Obama admin spent $36M on lawsuits to keep info secret…that was just in his last year in office.

      1. That figure isn’t exactly right insofar as it encompasses all costs expended on foia-related lawsuits across government, but, in any case, Trump’s about to spend a whole lot to do the same thing.

    2. A legislative body should *never* pass a bill targeting an individual, even if they try to slap lipstick on the pig by adding a few more targets. Either every NY state tax return should be subject to review by the listed committees, or none of them.

This is a very dark path. Laws need to apply equally to everybody. No special privilege for the wealthy and powerful, and no special punishment for the enemies of the rich and powerful.

  38. Seems a little excessive. If I were President, I’d just turn them over if the People asked. 2. Agreed. It is nobody’s business. But, it would go a long way to building trust, illustrating transparency – and it would take the wind out of the left’s sails. Imagine how powerful it would be for a president to say, “You’ve put your trust and faith in me, the least I can do is be an open book for you all.”

Unless he has something to hide, of course.

so why would he release private info that might damage his brand?

        It won’t.
