It’s just been reported that North Carolina Republicans have overridden a veto by Governor Roy Cooper on the pistol purchase requirement.
We told you last week that the Republican legislature in North Carolina had passed a bill ending the pistol permit requirement for the purchase of handguns. They passed it with the help of a few Democrats which meant in both the House and the Senate they would be able to override a veto by the governor. That’s exactly what happened this morning.

The people of North Carolina elected @NCGOP majorities to stop the Biden/Roy Cooper agenda. This morning, we did just that by with an OVERRIDE of Cooper’s veto on SB 41, which repeals NC’s pistol purchase permit requirement and establishes a safe storage initiative. #ncga #ncpol pic.twitter.com/XENluJA9Qv

According to reports the Senate had already overridden the governor’s veto and had sent it to the House.
This means that North Carolina citizens will no longer need to get the permission of their local sheriff department to purchase a handgun.
Since Republicans have veto power over the governor (with a little help from Dems), I hope they begin looking at constitutional carry to see if we can finally get that passed.
