CNN is reporting tonight that President Trump has just stunned officials at the DOJ by removing the senior leadership that oversees the nation’s immigration courts:
Senior leadership at the Justice Department’s agency overseeing the nation’s immigration courts were removed from service on Monday, stunning officials, according to a source familiar.
The Executive Office of Review oversees the US immigration court system. Immigration judges decide if immigrants can remain in the US or be deported.
Monday’s move is extraordinary, targeting career public servants who together have served in the agency for decades.
We reported earlier today that Trump appointed James McHenry, a career immigration attorney, to run the DOJ while Pam Bondi’s nomination is waiting to be confirmed. So it makes a lot of sense that he would have already begun removing the deep state from the immigration courts.
