It’s just been reported that Speaker Johnson has asked the White House to move the government funding deadlines out a little further to prevent a government shutdown.

How is it that Republican leaders – even conservative ones – always take government shutdowns off the table? It’s the only real leverage for negotiations when all you control is the House. I get that we don’t have the media on our side and it’s an election year, but doing it this way means always caving to greater and greater spending. And it keeps happening over and over. Nothing ever changes.
