The special envoy to Ukraine has resigned after being caught in the controversy over Trump’s call to the president of the country.
NEW: Amb. Kurt Volker has met with the Secretary of State. He has resigned from his position as Special Representative for Ukraine to the U.S. Secretary of State, according to a University spokesperson.

Two years later, Volker has resigned the envoy role after being caught in the Ukraine-related scandal consuming Trump’s presidency and fueling an impeachment drive by House Democrats. It’s an ominous turn for the widely respected diplomat, who joined the Trump team even as dozens of veterans of past Republican administrations shunned the new president. Volker’s reputation, like that of so many others, could ultimately be a casualty of Trump’s helter-skelter approach to governance.
Already, he’s facing scrutiny from lawmakers. On Friday, three House committees slapped Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with a subpoena, demanding information on the controversy and scheduling depositions for five State Department officials, including Volker.
Volker’s resignation was made public Friday evening and confirmed to POLITICO by a person familiar with the issue. It was first reported by a student news organization at Arizona State University.
Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal lawyer, says Volker asked him to talk to Ukrainian officials – discussions that may have involved demands that Ukraine dig up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden, the current Democratic 2020 frontrunner.
Now, this is also the guy that Giuliani was throwing under the bus when he was talking to Laura Ingraham in order to prove that he was acting at the behest of the State Department.
I mean, that doesn’t look good, right? Guy quits after Giuliani literally posts his texts on Fox News television…
