“Senator [Sheldon] Whitehouse [D-R.I.] has informed us by letter not to agree to Chairman Graham’s invitation to Ambassador Rice, a significant departure from the bipartisan investigations extended to other witnesses,” Rice’s lawyer wrote in a letter to Whitehouse obtained by CNN.
“Under these circumstances, Ambassador Rice respectfully declines Senator Graham’s invitation to testify,” Kathryn Ruemmler added in the message to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on crime and terrorism.
A source familiar with Rice’s discussions told CNN that she believed Graham’s invite was a bipartisan overture and was ready to accept it.
Whitehouse indicated to Rice that the invitation came without his agreement, CNN said, noting he did not believe her presence was relevant to the hearing’s topic.
Wait so she was going to testify and then a Democrat told her not to?! What the heck?
