Thomas Massie is a definite ‘no’ vote today on Speaker Mike Johnson’s reelection, according to his statement last night:

Massie is the only vote that Johnson can lose.
Yesterday President-elect Trump called Chip Roy to discuss voting for Johnson. According to reports, Trump did not pressure Roy to vote for him.
“Roy also warned Trump there are other likely no votes besides himself.”

Trump did not try to pressure Roy over his speaker vote. And Roy told Trump Johnson needs to change things to win the gavel and/or to be successful, if he does wind up getting the votes.

I could be wrong about this, but here’s what I think will happen. Johnson will lose the first vote today and maybe several others, but he will eventually win the day after more concessions. I see the ‘no’ votes as protest votes which will eventually turn into ‘aye’ votes. Why? Because I don’t think anyone else wants the job who can get enough votes to become speaker. I really believe it will be Johnson at the end of the day.
The vote will happen around noon today but don’t be shocked if it is initially delayed. I’ll post a live stream when we get closer to noon so you can watch the action live.
