BREAKING: Trump announces his replacement for John Bolton

Trump has just announced his replacement for former National Security Advisor John Bolton:

O’Brien was recently sent to Sweden, in his capacity as Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs at the State Department, to try and get the assault allegations against ASAP Rocky dropped.

He interviewed for the job last week.

He also reportedly worked for/with Mitt Romney at some point. And apparently Richard Grenell likes him a lot:

  1. Typically, the NatSec advisor position goes to a former general (e.g. Clapper, Flynn, Poindexter, Powell) with a strong intel background or a civilian well recognized as an expert in foreign and security policy with a strong background in security assessments (e.g. Scowcroft, Kissinger, Brzezinski).

While I hope he proves to be effective, I don’t see anything in his background related to intelligence (i.e. collection, analysis, and dissemination of information on national security threats) or anything else to prepare him for a position like this. Intel analysis is a very specialized field requiring education on a range of subjects and experience applying that knowledge.
