Officials from Mexico have been negotiating this week with the US over the big new tariff threat from Trump over the issue of illegal immigration. Now it appears that negotiations are going well enough that Trump may delay the implementation of the tariffs as negotiations continue:
BLOOMBERG – The U.S. is considering delaying President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs on Mexico as talks continue over stemming the flow of undocumented migrants and illegal drugs from Central America, according to people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg News reports.
Mexico is pushing for more time to negotiate over concerns the two sides won’t be able to reach agreement on all the steps Mexico would have to take to avert the tariffs, one person said. Trump has said the tariffs will be enacted on Monday.
Well this is good news.
If nothing else it means that there’s a sincere effort on the part of Mexico to try and do something about the issue of illegal drugs and people coming over our border.
The border situation is a major crisis and a solution that involves Mexico would be huge. I would also mean that Congress won’t have to take action against Trump in a year before a big election.
