President-elect Trump is now attacking Rep. Chip Roy from Texas, calling him “another ambitious guy with no talent” and telling people in Texas to get ready to primary Roy – just like it was done to Bob Good.
Here’s what Trump said:
The very unpopular “Congressman” from Texas, Chip Roy, is getting in the way, as usual, of having yet another Great Republican Victory – All for the sake of some cheap publicity for himself. Republican obstructionists have to be done away with. The Democrats are using them, and we can’t let that happen. Our Country is far better off closing up for a period of time than it is agreeing to the things that the Democrats want to force upon us. Biden is President, and it’s his obligation to properly lead. We’re there to do the right thing, and we can’t agree with what Biden and the Democrats are demanding. Weak and ineffective people like Chip have to be dismissed as being utterly unknowledgeable as to the ways of politics, and as to Making America Great Again. Put “America First,” and go for the Victory, even if it means shutting the Government down for a period of time. We had an overwhelming Victory just four weeks ago, and we’re not going to let the Democrats forget it so quickly!
And here’s a bit more:
Chip Roy is just another ambitious guy, with no talent. By the way, how’s Bob Good doing? I hope some talented challengers are getting ready in the Great State of Texas to go after Chip in the Primary. He won’t have a chance!
I think this has to do with Trump’s demand that Republicans put a debt limit increase in this continuing resolution and Roy opposing it.

Or it may have everything to do with spending cuts…
If I had to guess based on my reporting, this is because Roy wants spending cuts in this package. https://t.co/Ivj3ix1afn

Either way, what’s clear is that Chip Roy isn’t playing ball with what Trump wants and the President-elect isn’t happy about it.
The only thing I’ll add is that calling on Roy to be primaried isn’t going to necessarily cause him to budge from his positions right now. Roy is about as conservative as it gets and I really don’t think trying to bully him is going to work.
UPDATE:
Dana Loesch asks why Trump is going after Roy and not the left, and attacking him harsher than he has Mike Johnson?
Why? @chiproytx is one of the best conservative fighters in Congress. He is popular here in Texas. Why are we picking fights with proven conservative stalwarts and not the left? Why is he speaking more harshly of Chip Roy than Mike Johnson? https://t.co/hPTBmaay6q

UPDATE 2:
A CNN reporter got reaction from Chip Roy, but he refused to take the bait and just said they are working on a deal to cut spending:

UPDATE 3:
Chip Roy just responded on X saying he makes no apologies for trying to cut spending in exchange for a debt ceiling hike:
My position is simple – I am not going to raise or suspend the debt ceiling (racking up more debt) without significant & real spending cuts attached to it. I’ve been negotiating to that end. No apologies. CC: @realDonaldTrump @SpeakerJohnson @SenJohnThune @freedomcaucus

I knew he wouldn’t respond to bullying because Roy is principled. And honestly, what he says makes sense.
