President Trump had a great phone conversation with Minneapolis Mayor Frey this week, but is now unhappy with him after new anti-ICE comments he made.
Here’s what Trump said:
Surprisingly, Mayor Jacob Frey just stated that, “Minneapolis does not, and will not, enforce Federal Immigration Laws.” This is after having had a very good conversation with him. Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!
I know both Trump and Border Czar Tom Homan have met with Frey, and both have suggested that they’ve made some progress. But, to be blunt, I’ll believe it when I see it.
Frey commented yesterday and what he said doesn’t sound all that bad to me, depending on interpretation. If Frey is just saying that Minneapolis won’t enforce federal immigration laws, that’s sounds fine to me as long as he works with those federal officers who are enforcing federal immigration law.
Now if he’s saying that he won’t change his sanctuary policies and begin working with ICE, as opposed to against them, then that’s another matter entirely and I completely understand why Trump is upset. Trump made clear to both of them that he wants the criminal illegals from the jails instead of having to go out into the community to get them. I think he said he told Walz that this would all go away if he did that.
