BREAKING: Trump pulls endorsement from Mo Brooks over 2020 election comments

President Trump has just pulled his endorsement of Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks for the US Senate after he told a crowd of supporters to put the 2020 election fraud behind them and not worry about it any longer:

NY POST – Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday withdrew his endorsement of Rep. Mo Brooks for the US Senate, saying the Alabama Republican turned “woke” when he encouraged voters to move on from Trump’s claims of election fraud in the 2020 presidential race.

“Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went ‘woke’ and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, put that behind you,’ despite the fact that the Election was rife with fraud and irregularities,” Trump said in a statement released via email.

The 45th president signaled that he was unhappy with Brooks, who is running for the seat vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Richard Shelby, during an interview last week with the Washington Examiner.

“I’m disappointed that he gave an inarticulate answer, and I’ll have to find out what he means,” Trump said, referring to remarks by Brooks at the former president’s rally in Alabama last August.

At the rally, Brooks encouraged the crowd to move past the 2020 election results and “look forward.”

“There are some people who are despondent about the voter fraud and election theft in 2020,” Brooks said amid boos. “Folks, put that behind you, put that behind you.”

Trump, in his statement, said Brooks was “unstoppable” when he endorsed him last spring. The former president noted that one poll from the fall of 2021 showed Brooks with a “44-point lead” over his nearest competitor.

“He then hired a new campaign staff who ‘brilliantly’ convinced him to ‘stop talking about the 2020 Election.’ He listened to them. Then, according to the polls, Mo’s 44-point lead totally evaporated all based on his ‘2020’ statement made at our massive rally in Cullman, Alabama,” the former president said.

“When I heard his statement, I said, ‘Mo, you just blew the Election, and there’s nothing you can do about it,’” Trump continued. “Very sad but, since he decided to go in another direction, so have I, and I am hereby withdrawing my Endorsement of Mo Brooks for the Senate. I don’t think the great people of Alabama will disagree with me. Election Fraud must be captured and stopped, or we won’t have a Country anymore.”

Trump closed the statement with a promise that he would be announcing a new endorsement “in the near future!”

Speaking of polls, there was in fact a new poll that came out yesterday showing that Mo Brooks has fallen way behind Mike Durant and Katie Britt:

In a survey of likely Republican voters, 34.6% said they would vote for Durant if the election was held today, while 28.4% chose Britt and 16.1% chose Brooks. Just 14.1% remain undecided.

The poll was conducted by Cygnal on behalf of Alabama Daily News and Gray Television.

This comes just two months before Alabamans go to the polls to vote in the Republican primary on May 24. If this poll is any indication, Mo Brooks might not have time enough to turn things around, especially with Trump pulling his endorsement.
