BREAKING: White House official highlights new Iran deal

A White House official is pushing back against reports by Iran on the new Memo of Understanding, highlighting the big points in the Iran deal for Fox News reporter Aishah Hasnie.

Here’s what she writes:

From WH official on Iran deal:

1. Nuclear material will be destroyed and removed
2. Nuclear program will be dismantled
3. None of their money released until they perform
4. Strait of Hormuz will be open
5. No Iran funding of terrorist groups

Official adds: “This is what they agreed to. This is a performance based deal.”

The Iranians are putting out their version of the Memo of Understanding this morning, and it sounds like a very one-sided deal. Which is why most people who see this believe it’s nothing but propaganda.

There is money in the deal, but the US says it won’t be released until Iran starts living up to their side of the agreement. Iran claims otherwise, which is another reason this is propaganda.

Iranian state media details the US-Iran MOU. According to IRNA and Iranian outlets:

▪️No agreement on the nuclear issue in the current MOU. Iran makes no new nuclear commitment.

▪️Nuclear discussions will take place within 60 days of signing.

▪️Iran’s right to enrich uranium and retain its enriched material will be pushed for inclusion in the final agreement.

▪️The text contains no “extension of the ceasefire.” Iranian media describes a permanent and immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.

▪️Some frozen Iranian assets will be released immediately upon signing, the rest gradually during negotiations.

▪️Iran makes no commitment to hand over management of the Strait of Hormuz. The strait’s future will be settled regionally between Tehran and Oman.

▪️The compensation mechanism will be determined during the 60-day negotiations.

▪️During the 60 days, the removal of US sanctions and cancellation of related international decisions will be examined.

▪️The negotiations will focus on only three issues: the civilian nuclear program, removal of unilateral US sanctions, and compensation. Iran’s missile capabilities will not be discussed.

Note: this is Tehran’s account of the deal. It conflicts with US reporting on several points.
