Chris Christie wants to run for president in 2024

Chris Christie really wants to be president so he’s reportedly considering giving it another go in 2024:

AXIOS – Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is seriously considering running for president in 2024, three people familiar with his thinking tell Axios.

While Christie isn’t saying anything publicly about his thinking — besides telling radio host Hugh Hewitt he’s not ruling it out — people close to him have an early sense of the rationale and outlines of a potential candidacy.

These presidential aspirations of Christie’s assume that Trump chooses not to run again. In that instance, Christie is already envisioning himself running against Ron DeSantis:

Absent another run by former President Trump, the field would be wide open.

Christie, whose 2016 bid for the nomination was short-lived, has told friends that he’d be the only person in the 2024 field with executive experience who has run a presidential race before.

That’s a clear shot at one potential rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who’s enjoying a surge of popularity from Republican voters for his handling of COVID-19 and his sparring with the media but hasn’t yet endured the scrutiny of a presidential bid.

It might be a ‘clear shot’ at DeSantis, but it’s not much of a shot at all. Christie may have run a presidential race before, but it was a total failure. DeSantis can just say that he’s never run a failed presidential race before and he’s not starting now.

It continues…

Christie could run on a reputation for toughness that appeals to Trump’s base minus the former president’s recklessness, said one source. Another said he has a mix of combativeness and charisma that Republicans are looking for to take on President Biden and Democrats.

DeSantis already has a reputation for toughness that’s far more appealing to MAGA than that of Christie. Christie might sound good on TV, but he wasn’t nearly as tough a governor as he sounded. And besides, DeSantis isn’t going to hug Joe Biden on a beach just days before a presidential election like Christie did with Obama.

Seriously, I don’t think Christie has a chance in hell of being president even if Trump doesn’t run. The only man who I see that could truly unite all the factions of the right is currently the governor of Florida. And if he runs, which I’m guessing he will, then Christie won’t stand a chance.
