Chris Wallace GRILLS Stephen Miller on Trump’s national emergency

Stephen Miller tried to yell over Chris Wallace hitting him with some pretty tough questions about the national emergency declaration, and it didn’t quite go over well.

At about the 5:35 minute mark, Wallace really gets after him:

The question comes down to whether Trump is using the national emergency powers of the executive properly or if he’s abusing them. Wallace challenges Miller to name one other national emergency that arose from Congress denying one of the president’s policies. Miller dodges the question and yells a lot, but doesn’t really answer it.

The other issue is whether the effects from illegal immigration are actually a national emergency or not. Miller argues that more people are dying from illegal drugs being imported than any other threat. Wallace argues back that most of those do not come through the border but through ports of entry. But I think the essential detail missing here is that cutting off the supply doesn’t lessen the demand. It’s not as if people will leave happy blessed lives if opioids aren’t available from down south. The free market has a way of supplying horrible drugs to anyone who wants it.

All in all, Miller makes some good points. I think Wallace out-argues him though, even if Miller yells much louder. Which is how we measure rhetorical victory of course.

Not sure how you think Wallace out-argued Miller here. Wallace’s repeated and implied argument was that since this use of national emergency authority doesn’t look exactly like some others that it’s illegitimate.

But why should this use of the authority look exactly like others? The question is whether or not this use is covered by the statute – particularly once the Supreme Court gets ahold of it.

‘and it didn’t quite go over well.” huh did soopermexican watch the same video as the rest of us? that’s #TDS as Wallace tried gotchas and got shot down with facts. in this instance Stephen Miller pretty much schooled Wallace, defended the National Emergency Declaration.

More like “Miller steamrolls liberal gatekeeper Wallace”….in a battle of wits with Miller, Wallace is defenseless.

Miller isn’t exactly my preferred messenger, but I agree with him. The problems with the cartels in Mexico are making their way here.

I wish they would abandon the “drugs and human trafficking” as the spear point argument. It’s too esoteric & too easy for people to feel like it doesn’t effect them personally. Tell the truth. The D party thinks the problem with America is that it’s full of Americans. They’re not saving refugees theyre importing voters to intentionally displace us. If we dont stop importing the 3rd world, we will become the third world.

Imagine if Jefferson were President today and he wanted to build our first Navy to go after the Barbary Pirates?

The Dems would be screaming that it wasn’t a ‘national emergency’ and refuse to allocate the funds..

Would that have stopped him?

‘Miller dodges the question and yells a lot…’ He didn’t dodge the question, he wouldn’t answer yes or no. He gave smart responses and Wallace either insisted on a yes or no or moved to another question. As to the drugs entering through ports of entry, that is where the U.S. has manpower where drugs CAN BE absconded. I don’t agree with your view of this morning’s interview with Miller. Wallace is not the smart and clever reporter he believes himself to be.

I can’t tolerate that Genuine POS and Pres O Suckup and Jackass Fiberal Wallace…. and I turn the channel every time he appears on FOX. I only watched this time because he was going to be having Rush on. I watched the show and I disagree with your assessment that Wallace got the better of his interview with Miller, the only thing that he did more of then Miller was continually interrupting Miller and objecting to everything Miller was saying and once again bringing up and showing his Limousine Liberal Park Ave. Democratic bona fides! he could no more be a fair moderator and not show his left leaning bias then I could swim the English Channel!

Opioid deaths last year were 72,000+ I believe around 1/2 are “prescription” drugs available within the US. What does that say about drugs supplied by our doctors. Combine the illegal & the prescription drugs & America is losing big time.

It really doesn’t matter if the emergency declaration is in response to lack of Congressional action or not. What matters is the language of the 1976 statute and whether or not Trump is acting within the bounds of that delegated authority or not.

I don’t get the relevancy of Wallace pressing to find a similar instance this was done. Should every first be de-legitimized?

I disagree. Miller argued against the premise of Wallace’s question, the premise being a non sequitur.

Miller was spot-on, and made excellent points. Wallace was constantly obfuscating, and trying to mislead and interrupt to prevent information from getting to the audience. He specifically tried to mislead people about the drugs at points of entry. Of course 80-90% of found drugs are there because that’s where it’s easiest to catch them. Away from those ports no one is looking and there could be many times as much crossing there compared with the ports. It’s obvious, but he’s trying to fool people (or he’s too stupid to realize the truth).

I’m disappointed in this article mischaracterizing the interview. Too bad Miller couldn’t convince Trump to not sign the disaster appropriation.

Wallace continues to pimp for the dems. Nothing new. I’m sure Wallace would welcome illegals, MS-13 members, etc, to his neighborhood. Note to Mike….Stating that the majority of drugs come through ports of entry has been a democrat talking point for some time now. Let’s see. Does the democrat party run the corrupt and complicit media, or does the corrupt and complicit media run the democrat party?

Wallace is an idiot hack who is setting up a straw man irrelevent question.

Trump didn’t need to wait for Congress to act–he was just trying to get them to finally do their job for a change! They failed, so he must act to protect the country using existing law. It’s really not that hard to comprehend unless you want to shove all the casualties of a porous border under the rug.

Like most open border liberals Wallace refuses to admit there’s an emergency at our southern border. I’d like to see Wallace debate his leftist argument with Mark Levin on this issue.

The reason WHY drugs come through ports of entry is because it’s less riskier to bring them in that way than driving 100-500 miles out where there are no barriers, rough terrain, etc… opening themselves up to other cartels, Border Patrol drones, etc. THAT IS WHY, Chris.

People are focusing on that talking point, “most drugs come through ports of entry…” DUH!!

Wallace comes from globalist cheap foreign labor wing of FOX news. Remember it isn’t only the Democrats who has prevented the securing of our southern border dating back to the first Bush. Cheap foreign labor globalists within the Republican party and their big donor owners is our biggest obstacle.

The question comes down to whether Trump is using the national emergency powers of the executive properly or if he’s abusing them.

I sometimes feel like Wallace (and John Stossel) follow my blog posts around to get material for their work.

Maybe Wallace should shut up and allow Miller to make his point. How many other years did congress appropriate money, but now that Trump is president Pelosi says her people must vote no and they dutifully obey.

I’d like Stephen Miller to answer why a deal allowing UAC sponsor sanctuary was approved by Trump. The sponsor sanctuary question is tougher for a hardliner like Miller to justify, so explain himself.

I am not surprised about Miller’s inability to answer Wallace’s questions. He’s a hardliner who adds no real value. If anything, his positions may have weakened the Trump Administration’s capacity to develop and pursue constructive policies.

Miller has racist jerk written all over him. I think he has been the worst thing that has happened to Trump as far as guiding him down the wrong path. Geez, even Miller’s own family says he is racist. As far as supply and demand for the drugs, yes as long as there is demand they will come. I live in South Texas, and some of the biggest drug dealer offenders are Americans who somehow pickup the drugs at the border and sell them. We just had a huge cocaine bust of an American woman who was selling after she picked them up at the checkpoint entry. A wall will not stop the drug problem.

I see illegals on job sites everyday, seen it for the last 14 years plus, every few months an illegal will get killed or have a serious injury on a job site. The companies get fined by OSHA, might make the news, and it all blows over. Wash, Rinse and Repeat.
