Today Chuck Grassley responded to both Ford and Democrats calling for an FBI investigation into her claims.
Grassley essentially says he’s bending over backwards to accommodate Ford in any way she wants to be heard by the committee. He further adds that committee investigators are looking into her claims and that no outside investigation is necessary.
He also doesn’t understand why the Democrats won’t participate in the committee’s actions on working with Ford in all of these endeavors.
Dr. Ford shouldn’t be threatened or insulted & she deserves to be heard. I expect my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to be respectful & treat this situation with the sensitivity it deserves 1/4

We’re going to continue to try to hear from Dr. Ford in any format she’s comfortable w open session/closed session/private staff interviews/public staff interviews bc her information is very important. We’ve provided an opportunity for her to put her story fwd on Monday 2/4

While I feel like all of this is a waste of time, let it not be said that Grassley and the judiciary committee isn’t doing their due diligence with respect to the allegations.
If Senate Dems think they need the FBI to investigate, why didn’t they alert the FBI on July 30? As soon as I learned of the allegations from the Washington Post on Sunday I moved swiftly to follow up on Dr. Ford’s allegations As the FBI has said its role here is complete 3/4

This is my favorite point and the one the media would be trumpeting the loudest if the shoe were on the other foot. This is how we know they were scheming with this the entire time and why they are being dishonest and unfair to Kavanaugh with it now. This whole thing is just a farce.
Cmte investigators are following up on the leads from Dr. Ford’s allegations & news stories No other OUTSIDE investigation is necessary for the Cmte to do its investigation. Don’t know why Dems are refusing to cooperate in the cmte’s investigation I hope Dems will join me 4/4

Dems are refusing to participate because they want it to look like a partisan ‘sweeping under the rug’ of these phony allegations. If they participated, then they couldn’t credibly keep calling for the FBI to investigate and stonewalling on the upcoming hearing. They want to give people who don’t like Kavanaugh something to believe in as well as the ability to say Kavanaugh was forced through despite ‘serious’ allegations.
None of it is true, but unserious people will listen to whatever music these corrupt Democrats play for them.
