CNN’s Chris Cuomo was the first on CNN to actually cover Chief Justice John Roberts criticizing Schumer for his threats on Supreme Court justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. He waited until the last couple minutes of his hour to do it though. And he turned it into a Roberts/Trump bashing segment.

Cuomo starts out by playing Schumer’s remarks and saying:
“I don’t like it Senator Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Look I know Trump says the same crap. That’s why it’s wrong. I get Schumer’s concerns and many viewer’s about undoing Roe v. Wade. It’s real! You’re just not helping by appearing to threaten justices. If you act like what you oppose, how are you any better? And that’s not ‘go high when they go low’, that’s reality.”
Cuomo then claimed Roberts is a hypocrite because he hasn’t rebuked Trump:
“Now it drew a rare rebuke from Chief Justice Roberts, who not only called Schumer’s comments inappropriate, but dangerous. But you know what? He’s a problem too here. What hasn’t he said that about Trump?”
He then ripped into Trump for calling on action to be taken against Schumer:
“[Trump] is the worst when it comes to respecting the judiciary. He had the gall – Trump – to say action should be taken against Schumer. He wants to enforce civility. You want to enforce civility Mr. President? This is easy. Start with yourself.”
“And they wonder why so many of you think so little of them. It’s a problem, they should fix it.”
Trump never threatened Sotomayor or Ginsburg the other day. He simply called on them to recuse themselves for their apparent biases against him. In fact Trump was responding to Sotomayor criticizing Gorsuch and Kavanaugh for being biased in favor of Trump.
Regardless of whether or not you think Trump should have even said anything, he never threatened nor tried to intimidate anyone. It’s not even close to the same thing as what Schumer said today, essentially threatening to try and impeach Gorsuch and Kavanaugh if they don’t rule his way. And Cuomo is a schmuck for attacking John Roberts and suggesting otherwise.
I’ve been saying tonight that CNN hadn’t covered the Schumer threats today. Actually Jake Tapper touched on it briefly just before Roberts issued his statement in the 5pm hour. But nobody after 6pm touched the Roberts statement criticizing Schumer until Cuomo did at the very end of his hour. And you see the mess he made out of it.
