‘Conservatives don’t like or want the personal mocking’ of DeSantis by Trump, tweets Levin, and MANY agree

At his rally in Waco, Texas, Donald Trump said many of the right things he often says about the left, about Democrats, about woke politics and the dire consequences America faces.

The message is familiar if you have watched or attended past Trump rallies. The added weight that it is now part of his campaign for 2024 gives it a new feel, and the fact that they are after him full bore in court in a way that’s really unprecedented even in the history of Trump attacks puts even the most familiar parts in a new and urgent light.

But there was another part of the speech this time, something that is back after being gone for a while. Republican bashing has returned to the Trump stage.

At the rally yesterday DeSantis and to some extent Nikki Haley were repeatedly attacked, bashed, or mocked throughout the day. Lindell called DeSantis a “Trojan horse.” MTG acted like she’s not sure who Haley even is. And Gaetz practically called Ted Cruz the “B” team.

But it was Trump who took it all the way, mocking DeSantis outright as a crying basketcase loser who begged for his help pathetically. He even did a mocking voice impersonating the Florida governor.

And he attacked DeSantis’s record from the left. I mean that’s just what he did. He repeated left wing MSM talking points about DeSantis on crime and, amazingly, on Covid, where the Florida governor was practically heroic.

I mean, the governor didn’t even trot out Anthony Fauci at every opportunity while fully endorsing whatever Fauci said. Can you think of any Republicans who DID do that, President Trump?

Oh gosh … that’s right.

The trashing of DeSantis on a personal level in the same way he mocks woke leftists was not as popular as he would want. I noticed it and other people noticed it, and Mark Levin tweeted about it. He shared a link to a post with video of the muted reaction to the ugly comments and said, “Conservatives don’t like or want the personal mocking.”

That’s just true. The movement — call it MAGA, America First, conservative, or just the new GOP — has spent the last few years praising and admiring the Florida governor for taking a stand against CRT, against trans indoctrination, against far left economics, and yes, against covid fascism. And the leftist MSM has tried their hardest to take him down for it.

They see Trump as an ally in this, and give him positive coverage, which he loves. And he basically said in his speech that the main reason he doesn’t like DeSantis is “loyalty.” He’s mad that DeSantis didn’t say he won’t run against him.

So he attacked. That’s his words, not mine. But his words weren’t so popular, Levin notes, when it comes to smearing Ron DeSantis. And a LOT of people agreed with him.

Of course, there were plenty of disagreement tweets too. Many in a certain familiar style.

I don’t like it. I don’t think it’s necessary. I’m not sure what the point is or who it is supposed to help. If he’s so far ahead in the polls why try to permanently ruin one of the most important governors in one of the most important states? This is the kind of thing that can cost Florida in the next presidential election. Does THAT help Trump?

I don’t know what his advisors tell him, but if it keeps up like this any primary victor will be Pyrrhic.

When people say this can cost us, cost Trump or whoever, the general election, that’s not some kind of whimpering appeal to niceties. It’s not arguing that people will choose to vote for Democrats becuase Trump was MEAN.

It’s because it can cost electoral votes by turning a red state blue. By convincing Florida voters that the REPUBLICAN and CONSERVATIVE politics and policies of DeSantis are BAD. They will see media reports of “EVEN TRUMP THINKS RON DESANTIS’S OPPOSITION TO VAST GOVERNMENT RUN ENTITLTEMENT PROGRAMS IS EVIL” and what will they conclude? That they should SUPPORT massive social security spending. That opening the state early and putting people back to work in Florida was DEADLY and next time they should listen to Democrats and stay locked down longer.

He’s persuading the state against the PARTY not just his primary opponent. It’s not just short-sighted it’s borderline madness.

Mark Levin is right that conservatives aren’t happy with the all-out war against fellow Republicans, and that was true in 2016 too. It took until the primary was almost over for there to be convincing enough majority of support WITHIN the party to think he could carry the election.

This time? I dunno man. I don’t think it’s looking great if this keeps up.
