A man in Queens was shot after he tried to stab a police officer with a butcher knife after his wife called 911 to have him involuntarily transported to a hospital. This was a mental health call that went awry because the man tried to killed the officer who responded.

The commie mayor of New York was asked about this and actually claimed the man, who is recovering from his wounds, should go free and not be charged. This comes after the family blames the police for ‘escalating’ the situation in the home.
This makes zero sense to me. Regardless of his mental health, the man tried to kill the officer. He needs to be locked away because he is a danger to society.
And to suggest that this was the officer’s fault is ridiculous. The woman called to have him involuntarily transported to a hospital, presumably because he was a danger to himself or others. This is precisely why police need to be there. The officer tried to do everything he could to keep from shooting the man, including shutting a door between him and the man. But the man persisted through the door and that’s when the officer was forced to defend himself.
I don’t know what happened beforehand, but I suspect the man simply didn’t want to be ‘involuntarily transported’ anywhere and lashed out at the officer by trying to kill him. What do you think would have happened if some mental health person showed up instead of police? They’d be dead right now, probably stabbed in the back as they are trying to get out the front door.
The situation was tragic, but to say this man shouldn’t be charged is absurd.
