The details have been coming out all night on the “agreement in principle” reached by Biden and McCarthy late on Saturday evening and they are NOT good. People like to say you know it’s a good deal when both sides are unhappy, but that ain’t what’s up here. It’s Republicans who aren’t happy, the Democrats are thrilled.
And when Democrats are happy that usually means very bad things. And apparently this time is NO exception.
This “deal” is insanity.
A $4T debt ceiling increase with virtually no cuts is not what we agreed to.
Not gonna vote to bankrupt our country. The American people deserve better.

Can Norman be right? Is there NOTHING to celebrate? Well…
Of the $80 billion Democrats appropriated to the IRS over ten years, the “deal” rescinds $1.9 billion. You read that right. That’s the kind of “get” that’s so good McCarthy agreed to increase the debt ceiling $4 trillion.

Ronald Reagan said: "If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later."
Speaker McCarthy's version: "If you can get five or six percent of what you were asking for, you take the deal and claim victory."

Oh boy.
Moreover – it accepts its spending levels!! I mean you can’t make this crap up. https://t.co/AAtvGTDDYW

THREAD: There are members of the GOP claiming Democrats got nothing from the “deal.” Oh really? 1) An uncapped debt ceiling with an expiration date – worth approximately $4 trillion…? 2) basically no cuts – a freeze at bloated 2023 spending level? #DebtCeiling (1/3)
— Chip Roy (@chiproytx) May 28, 2023
Remember the monstrous omnibus spending spree from last Christmas?
This “deal” sets up the bipartisan betrayal to happen all over again next year. 🤡 https://t.co/DSXoKzyNbr

…3) ZERO claw back of the $1.2 Trillion “inflation reduction act” crony giveaways to elite leftists for grid-destroying unreliable energy…? 4) 98% of the IRS expansion left fully in place…? 5) no work requirements for Medicaid? – & only age adjustments for TANF/SNAP…? (2/3)
— Chip Roy (@chiproytx) May 28, 2023
…6) no REINS act statutory requirement for congress to approve huge regulations – just an “administrative” paygo that the administration will get to enforce? 7) No border security!! – & a deal allowing them to avoid policy riders in the fall… 8) more… (3/3) /end
— Chip Roy (@chiproytx) May 28, 2023
I wish that were true. $4 Trillion for keeping (effectively) bloated 2023 spending levels & maintenance of the Democrats’ wish list – crony IRA unreliable energy subsidies stay, IRS expansion 98% stays, work requirements weak and don’t apply to Medicaid… https://t.co/f3i4fTlWRs
— Chip Roy (@chiproytx) May 28, 2023
With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats? https://t.co/EFpSkh2N8q

Our base didn’t volunteer, door knock and fight so hard to get us the majority for this kind of compromise deal with Joe Biden.
Our voters deserve better than this. We work for them.
You can count me as a NO on this deal. We can do better.
— Lauren Boebert (@laurenboebert) May 28, 2023
THREAD: Turns out this chart is basically accurate. Will fill it in tomorrow more fully… but to best of our current understanding with NO text… 1) Debt ceiling set til 1/1/2025 – which means unknown debt increase – but $4 Trillion is a good estimate… (1/10) https://t.co/5WYaMNIbLQ
— Chip Roy (@chiproytx) May 28, 2023
…Finally, again… this deal raises our debt ceiling an unlimited amount that is likely close to or over $4 Trillion. #DebtCeiling (10/10)
— Chip Roy (@chiproytx) May 28, 2023
Roy says he and his allies are going to try and put a stop to the deal. McCarthy and his allies are on the Sunday morning shows calling it a victory and claiming Biden didn’t get squat.
What happens next is a good question, not sure Freedom Caucus can stop it. What do y’all think?
