Seattle City Councilwoman Lisa Herbold called the police on Friday after someone threw a rock through her window. The same city councilwoman who wants to defund the police. For a crime she’s trying to make unpunishable.
Jason Rantz in Seattle got the details on the sudden change of heart, as the New York Post reports.
The irony is that under a proposal introduced by Herbold, the suspect could avoid criminal charges if caught. Under the legislation, charges against most misdemeanor suspects could be dismissed if they can show symptoms of mental illness or addiction or if they can prove the crime provided for a need to survive, a so-called “poverty defense,” the paper reported.
Rantz writes:
Under the legislation as currently presented in the model bill, Herbold is handing her perpetrator a free pass.
The model bill tells prosecutors to consider dismissing charges against a suspect “experiencing symptoms of a behavioral health disorder” while they committed the crime.
Here’s more on that poverty defense bill.
Rantz sums it up nicely.
Herbold wants a criminal investigation into this man. She should. He broke the law and should be punished. But in Seattle, thanks to councilmembers like Herbold, we don’t punish criminals. We have an aversion to putting people in jail who are threats to society. Usually, the councilmembers aren’t victims themselves. They just create the victims with their permissive policies.
Ain’t that the truth. Typical leftist government: it creates victims, and when its proponents have problems, they take advantage of the system for themselves, rules that are for you are not for them.
Just like the Mayors and Governors and Dr. Birx, all traveling for the holidays while telling you stay home because of Covid. Just like the greenie celebs preaching to you about doing without while they fly private jets.
It’s the leftwing American way.
