What started out as a strong reprimand by Democrats of Rep. Ilhan Omar for her anti-Semitic remarks, at least in theory, became a weaker reprimand against anti-Semitism when they refused to include her name in the resolution.
Now Democrats are delaying the resolution, which was supposed to be up for a vote today, in order to water it down even more and make it about all types of ‘hate’ and ‘bigotry’:
FOX NEWS – The declaration – which doesn’t mention Omar by name – was initially set to be introduced Wednesday. It was to set out the history of anti-Semitism and other bigotry in America and provide examples of anti-Jewish tropes about divided loyalties.
It was also supposed to say the House “rejects anti-Semitism as hateful expressions of intolerance that are contradictory to the values that define the people of the United States.”
Democrats have now delayed the resolution to at least Thursday, as the party’s House leadership works to reword the statement to include other forms of bigotry – all while facing pressure from progressive Democrats who are defending Omar, Politico reported.
“We’re still discussing it,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told the outlet Tuesday. “The sentiment is that it ought to be broad-based. What we’re against is hate, prejudice, bigotry, white supremacy, Islamophobia, and anti-Semitism.”
“Yes, we’re strongly against anti-Semitism, but we’re strongly against prejudice directed at any group,” he added.
They’ve taken so many ‘teeth’ out of this resolution that it couldn’t bite a gummy bear if it wanted to – it’s useless.
Democrats are just rolling over again, refusing to explicitly condemn the anti-Semitism of Omar. They won’t even remove her from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. And I suspect it has a lot to do with the fact that she’s Muslim, and that the hard-left-progressive-wing of the party agrees with Omar. Just look at them coming to her defense:
One of the things that is hurtful about the extent to which reprimand is sought of Ilhan is that no one seeks this level of reprimand when members make statements about Latinx + other communities (during the shutdown, a GOP member yelled “Go back to Puerto Rico!” on the floor). https://t.co/MwrRN4v4DG

Did AOC not see how the Republican House reprimanded Steve King? How is it she can say this stuff with a straight face?
“Calling out” is one of the measures of last resort, not 1st or 2nd resort.

We do it when repeated attempts to “call in” are disrespected or ignored. And I believe that Ilhan, in her statement a few weeks ago, has demonstrated a willingness to listen+work w/impacted communities.
What does that even mean? Ilhan won’t even apologize for her anti-Semitic remarks this time around.
Democrats are kowtowing to their base again and because of this the anti-Semitism in their party will continue to grow.
