Even though Senate Democrats used the filibuster many, many times over the last four years to block Republican efforts, they are now dead-set on getting rid of it so they can ram their agenda through the Senate. But as you well know two Democrats stand in the way of repealing it, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, both of whom who won’t be up for reelection until after Biden’s first term.
Since Democrats can’t get rid of either of these Senators in the next two years, they have to employ other pressure tactics to get them to fold. And this is exactly what they are going to do, by sicking Al Sharpton on them to call them racist:
POLITICO – Rev. Al Sharpton, the civil rights leader and former presidential candidate, said in an interview that he and others have begun talks to hold town halls and rallies in the home states of senators like Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), who have said they opposed scrapping the filibuster.
“The pressure that we are going to put on Sinema and Manchin is calling [the filibuster] racist and saying that they are, in effect, supporting racism,” Sharpton said. “Why would they be wedded to something that has those results? Their voters need to know that.”
I said in my title that this is a ‘new plan’, and while it is a new plan with respect to Manchin and Sinema, it’s the same old plan they always use against Republicans when trying to either pressure or silence them.
We saw this over and over during the Obama administration, that when any Republican would criticize the first black president for anything, they’d be labeled as racist by Democrats.
But it isn’t so often that we see the same tactic used by Democrats against their own. This tells you just how much of a target Manchin and Sinema have become over blocking the repeal of the Senate filibuster that’s been around for nearly a century. And I’d bet you dollars to donuts that this effort to pressure these two Senators wasn’t Al Sharpton’s idea at all, but that he’s taking orders from Democrats in the Senate or the DNC.
If this pressure campaign works and Manchin and Sinema do fold, it would be a disaster because then Democrats would be able to force through every radical left-wing bill that Nancy Pelosi could come up with, all with a simple majority that would have to include a vote from Kamala.
