I like Ohio State Representative Jean Schmidt. And you will too after you watch this clip of her telling the cold-hard truth about abortion when it comes to rape victims.
Just watch:
At issue is a bill in Ohio called the “the Human Life Protection Act”, which according to the New York Post would “impose a nearly total ban on abortions in Ohio if the landmark Roe v. Wade decision were ever overturned by the US Supreme Court — making no exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape or incest.”
Here’s what Schmidt said in defense of this bill regarding women who are raped:
Rape is a difficult issue. It emotionally scars an individual, all or in part, for the rest of their life, just as child abuse does.
But if a baby is created, it is a HUMAN LIFE and whether that mother ends that pregnancy or not, the scars will NOT go away. Period.
It is a shame that it happens but there is an opportunity for that woman, no matter how young or old she is, to make a determination about what she’s going to do to help that life be a productive human being. She can choose to raise the child. She can choose to give that child to a loving family or to give it to someone else. And that child can grow up to be something magnificent, a wonderful family person, cure cancer, etc.
This is not about keeping abortion alive. This is about keeping the mother alive. And just because you have emotional scars doesn’t give you the right to take a life.
I absolutely love this so much – I couldn’t have said it better myself. A life is a life is a life. A woman doesn’t have the right to choose to end that new life just because of severe emotional trauma and violence. That’s always been my stance and will always be my stance and I’m so glad Schmidt said it so well.
But the left is outraged over her remarks, specifically the part where she said “there is an opportunity for that woman, no matter how young or old she is, to make a determination about what she’s going to do to help that life be a productive human being”. They are taking it out of context, claiming she’s saying that rape is an opportunity for women. That’s clearly not what she said, but that’s what they are going with to smear her:

NEW WHITEBOARD
Ohio’s Jean Schmidt yesterday called rape an “opportunity” for the rape victim!? Outrageous.
So much to say, but one question is—how are people like Schmidt, w a long history of this, even in office?
And how can we hold her accountable?

Ohio Rep Jean Schmidt of Loveland is a dangerous authoritarian who should not be in any position of power. People like her are emboldened by our illegitimate 6-3 extremist Christian SCOTUS. pic.twitter.com/ON9nuhLxhg

It’s all completely dishonest and evil, in my opinion. Schmidt has it exactly right and I would vote for her in a heartbeat on this issue if I lived in Ohio. People like her need to be in charge to protect innocent life.
