DHS smacks back at CNN for their phony fact-check reporting!

The other day in the White House meeting with Pelosi and Schumer on funding for the wall, Trump told both Democrats that “People are pouring into our country, including terrorists. We caught 10 terrorists over a short period of time”.

Here’s a clip of that exchange:

Because, unlike Obama (yeah I said it!), CNN cares so much about every word that comes out of Trump’s mouth, they decided to fact check his statement about 10 terrorists:

They claim that DHS can’t back up Trump’s above claim about terrorism. Jim Sciutto even tweets about it again:

DHS spokesman Tyler Houlton responds via Twitter, providing the facts and accusing CNN of never even reaching out to them:

We are happy to provide the facts — but you never reached out. In fact, DHS prevented 3,755 known or suspected terrorists from traveling to or entering the U.S. in FY 17. That’s in addition to 17,526 criminals, 1,019 gang members, and 3,028 special interest aliens. #FactsFirst

Obviously those numbers deal with last year, but point taken. It’s easy to believe Trump’s statement in that context.

What Trump was specifically referring to, I don’t know. Perhaps they can’t be specific about anything recent. But that wasn’t his overall point in the first place, and the numbers DHS provides for FY 2017 do back up his main point that terrorists are trying to get into this country.
