Man this is just getting ridiculous now. Trump just tweeted another public attack on Jeff Sessions, as well as Michael Horowitz, the DOJ Inspector General:
Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!

If Trump is unhappy with Sessions, then he needs to get rid of him. But this public shaming needs to stop. Even if you agree with Trump on this issue, he needs to handle this stuff in-house and not publicly.
Usually the type of concerns a president raises in a private meeting with the Attorney General. https://t.co/x1woDXHKfW

Exactly!
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Jeff Sessions tendered his resignation today and walked out. And I wouldn’t blame him one bit.
And as far as Michael Horowitz goes, I believe this is a true statement:
The inspector general, Michael Horowitz, is known as a straight shooter. He was appointed to his current role by Obama, but before that was nominated by George W. Bush to be the Commissioner on the U.S. Sentencing Rights. https://t.co/p3TAfKHC3u

According to Laura Jarrett, it’s Horowitz’s job to investigate these type of allegations:
This is also *exactly* what the OIG is for, investigating "alleged violations of criminal and civil laws by DOJ employees" (https://t.co/PlJgB7esR4), and he can refer cases for criminal prosecution https://t.co/GjIS16bJoK

So Sessions is doing the right thing, and yet he’s getting spat on by our petulant child president. Ugh.
What’s ironic about all of this is that Sarah Sanders said yesterday that she thought Trump would support this IG FISA investigation:
Sarah Sanders said yesterday: “I would imagine he certainly supports the decision to look into what we feel to be some wrongdoing. I think that is the role of the Department of Justice and we're glad that they're fulfilling that job.” https://t.co/0C1nmxSPo2

Welp, I guess she was wrong.
