“Disrespect the flag and you break my heart” – Powerful words from Vietnam Vet on NFL National Anthem protests

There’s a lot of things going around this week about the massive National Anthem protests in the NFL that Trump provoked last weekend. I haven’t seen them all but I’m betting the words of this Vietnam Vet might be some of the most compelling when it comes to why these protests are so offensive.

Michael Reagan’s drawings are amazing and I love his drawing of Villanueva. What a wonderful thing for him to do everyday.

What really caught my attention though was when he said this:

“Anybody who knows me knows I held my friend, two of them, Peter Armstrong and Vincent Santaniello, March 28, 1968. Vincent’s blood is still on my hands. Those men came home covered in an American flag. Disrespect the flag and you break my heart.

Those words got to me. And he’s absolutely right that this is not the vehicle to use for these NFL protests.
