A new … sculpture? … Okay yeah that’s they are calling it. A new “sculpture” in Boston … honoring? … okay yeah that’s what they’re saying. A new “sculpture” in Boston “honoring” Martin Luther King Jr. was unveiled this weekend and literally everyone has questions about it.
The video that got the most attention, and the most retweets, came via Boston’s WHDH. Let me first, um, share this … share it with you. I guess.

SOOOOOO… … yeah. That’s something alright. Something unsettling and weird and straight up ugly. And that’s not just me saying so. It’s planet earth.
The objections ran from confusion to horror, and from every possible side of politics and culture. Here’s a random sample from retweets.
Congratulations, this hideous statue ended racism. https://t.co/bB7d0H4tp2

Nothing about this honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The sculpture looks awful and borderline sexual and in the end it’s symbolism. If you want to honor Dr. King you must pay his people reparations. https://t.co/F6guhAgA0W

What kind of grotesque abomination is this? It looks like it was designed by some twisted AI algorithm. https://t.co/mLT4hSgm2g

Is there a rule that modern sculpture has to be hideous and dehumanizing? https://t.co/EzKQkzMZ4S

A lot of people noticed a particular aspect … be warned, it’s vulgar:
I dont know what you see but to me it looks like a head between legs….. https://t.co/lHt6zzRloh

They tried blaming the angle.
It’s unfortunate that our first sighting after the unveiling is the worst possible angle. Here’s what we should have seen: (📸 WBUR) pic.twitter.com/kdYnqsmPnL

But …
Artists please I beg you to check and double check your work from all angles. https://t.co/xTPzL1a7cP pic.twitter.com/vta6tXnJkt

I’ve looked at this from multiple angles and have determined that it is one of the worst sculptures ever. https://t.co/oiq0pPXeBI

Right.
And here’s something to think about:
Your historical statues were taken down for this garbage https://t.co/N8mM35mpDK
