Buckhead, a neighborhood in Atlanta, is filing for divorce from the city of Atlanta and it has everything to do with how Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is handcuffing police amidst skyrocketing violent crime:
While he loves the Atlanta police department, Buckhead City Committee Chairman and CEO Bill White says Mayor Bottoms has said shoplifters won’t be prosecuted and won’t allow police to even chase someone who is shooting out of a vehicle at pedestrians. The latter of which happened in January of this year in Buckhead, when an officer told residents he was unable to chase the perpetrator.
White said that Buckhead is putting this divorce with Atlanta up for a referendum in 2022 and has lawmakers working on legislation to turn Buckhead into its own city, named Buckhead City.
Buckhead wants its own police force and from what I understand, this is a pretty affluent neighborhood which can afford to create one.
