A New Jersey Democratic Mayoral candidate for Belleville, New Jersey, Marie Strumolo Burke, was caught on tape saying the following:
“This is terrible. This is terrible. This is gonna be a f***ing ni**er town.”
Ouch! That’s the last thing you want to be heard saying about the town you want to run. Of course she denies it is her voice, but analysts feel that it IS her voice with about 85% certainty.
Also just to point out, according to the 2010 census, Belleville is 61% White and only 9% black, just to put her comments in context.
THE BLAZE – The aforementioned racist statement, recorded on voicemail, has been identified with “85 percent” certainty by a forensics lab as coming from Belleville, New Jersey, councilwoman and Democratic mayoral candidate Marie Strumolo Burke, according to NJ.com.
Burke also is listed as a municipal chair on the Essex County Democratic Committee, and her bio on Belleville’s website notes she’s served as the town’s Democratic Chairman.
Burke’s alleged racist outburst can be heard on a voicemail discussing proposed changes to Belleville’s tax rates, said Mayor Raymond Kimble, who’s running against Burke in the June mayoral election, adding that he’ll call for Burke’s resignation.
You can listen to the audio below but **BE WARNED** the aforementioned offensive comments can be heard on the tap just after the 1:15 mark:
I know Burke isn’t a NBA owner, but given how people reacted to Sterling and the proximity to the release of Sterlings’ audio, you’d think this would make the news on some level. After all, she is running for mayor.
So where is the outrage mob?
