Egypt’s top military officer: President Mohamed Morsi no longer the leader of Egypt

It’s all happened just as the Army said it would. Here’s the lowdown:

Egypt_coup

CNN – Egypt’s military deposed the country’s first democratically elected president Wednesday night, installing the head of the country’s highest court as an interim leader, the country’s top general announced.

Gen. Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi said the military was fulfilling its “historic responsibility” to protect the country by ousting Mohamed Morsy, the Western-educated Islamist leader elected a year ago. Morsy failed to meet demands to share power with opponents who thronged the streets of Cairo, and those crowds erupted as the announcement was made.

Ahead of the statement, troops moved into key positions around the capital and surrounded a demonstration by Morsy’s supporters in a Cairo suburb. Citing an unnamed presidential source, the state-run newspaper Al-Ahram reported that “the General Command of the Armed Forces told President Morsy around 7 p.m. (1 p.m. ET) that he is no longer a president for the republic.”

At the final hour, Morsy offered to form an interim coalition government “that would manage the upcoming parliamentary electoral process, and the formation of an independent committee for constitutional amendments to submit to the upcoming parliament,” he said in a posting on his Facebook page. He noted that hundreds of thousands of supporters and protesters had packed plazas around the country, and he urged that his countrymen be allowed to express their opinions through the ballot box.

“One of the mistakes I cannot accept — as the president of all Egyptians — is to side with one party over another, or to present the scene from one side only. To be fair, we need to listen to the voice of people in all squares,” the statement read.

But as night fell Wednesday, troops surrounded a pro-Morsy demonstration at a Cairo mosque and took control of a key bridge across the Nile River. Gehad El-Haddad, a spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood, reported via Twitter that tanks were on the streets.

In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the U.S. government — Egypt’s leading ally — could not confirm reports of a coup. Psaki said the United States is not taking sides and urged all parties to come to a peaceful resolution to the “tense and fast-moving” situation.

ALSO:

AP — Egypt’s military has suspended the Islamist-backed constitution and called early elections.

The military also announced that embattled President Mohammed Morsi will be replaced.

Cheers erupted among millions of protesters nationwide who were demanding Morsi’s ouster.

I read this but have no idea if this is good or bad for America.  I can’t see how any of the changes will be good for the people of the middle east.  It just seems it’s bad or worse for some and badder or worser for others with each regime change.  I can’t see how there can be any joy when Christians are constantly murdered or that women ( last I heard97) were raped during the celebration in Cairo.
The less we have to do with them with the exception of Israel, the better I like it.

Goldman 7/4/13 Update: Why cant we get 14 million people into the streets to proclaim that Obama is an idiot like the Egyptians did? Over at http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-07-02/guest-post-egyptians-love-us-our-freedom, Jim Quinn posts pictures of the banners in the mass demonstrations. They are inspiring. One read: Obama you jerk, Muslim Brotherhoods are killing the Egyptians, so how come they can guarantee you the security of Israel. Hey Obama, your deal with the Muslim Brotherhood is unsuccessful. Obama you idiot, Keep in mind that Egypt is not Muslim brotherhoods and if you dont believe that go and see whats happening in Tahrir Square now. Another reads, Obama, your bitch is our dictator. A picture of Hillary Clinton read, Hayzaboon [ogre] go home. Many banners simply read, Obama supports terrorism. Others were too harsh to mention in a family site. Happy 4th of July!… Read more »

TODAY is FRIDAY.
Today (JULY 5) could be a very bad day in Egypt.
The Muslim Brotherhood Islamists are not going to give up and roll over and relinquish power to the relatively sane, non-radical, non-rapist, tolerant of Christianity Egyptians without a lot of bloodshed and vengeance.
Friday is the Islamist’s ‘Holy’ Day.
Friday is the Islamist favorite day for committing the most atrocity and inhuman acts.
They leave Friday prayer and attack funerals, weddings, rival mosques, police stations, military barracks, hospitals, restaurants, etc.
They set bombs to go off,  then a second set of bombs to kill the rescue personnel.
Nothing is too low down for these people.
They traffic little girls and boys. They rape women, then stone them for being impure.
Pray hard.
Egypt is not safe or free yet.

to roll back islamism in many islamic countries like egypt is like a sisyphean arduous endeavor. so morsi’s overthrow is not an indication that islamism is on the go. nonetheless it is still music to my ears that the radical islamist muslim brotherhood and its pal obama have been rebuffed and humiliated.

A reading guide
Danielle Pletka, Michael Rubin | American Enterprise Institute
July 03, 2013
Two
and a half years after the first stirrings of the Arab Spring, Egypt is
once again in the throes of a revolution. Mere days after
long-simmering resentments about food shortages, long gas lines, and
soaring unemployment fueled massive public protests against the ruling
Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian military acted on its ultimatum to oust
President Mohamed Morsi, suspend the constitution, and install an
interim government. Although the outcome is far from clear, renewed
upheaval in the worlds most populous Arab country is bound to have
enormous consequences for the broader Middle East and for U.S. interests
in the region.
To help you navigate the events unfolding in Egypt, we offer these selected readings from AEI’s Foreign and Defense Policy team:

A.
No, far from it. Morsi was a wannabe sectarian Mubarak. His primary

Hope you will think long and hard about a secular government and about kicking the Islamofacists OUT of Egypt. But, hey, it’s our country. Obama spent at least 65 million on installing Morsi in Egypt – using George Soros-made voting machines.

We know Obama the friend of the Muslim Brotherhood wants to send troops to help old Morsi inflict tyranny on the Egyptians…but his own poll numbers are slipping due to his Morsi-like pushing of the Amnesty Bill and Obamacare, his obscene spending and lavish lifestyle and vacations…not to mention pushing Gay Marriage and the Global Warming myth and global carbon tax scam.
Hopefully – people will remember the ugliness of the Clinton’s preference of barbaric Islamism over the Christian Serbs in Bosnia – sending US troops to kill Christians!
“Every day it becomes terribly clear how vicious it was of President Clinton to send US troops to fight alongside Albanian Muslims to defeat the Christian Serbs in the cause of Islam.”
NOW the Islamists in Bosnia have killed a busload of CHILDREN.

Does the coup in Egypt, portend an Egypt attack on Israel, which coupled with the war in Syria, move us closer to Armageddon? Here is one source that thinks that is a possibility: http://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-news-and-politics/136795/lee-smith-egypt-morsi?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lee-smith-egypt-morsi&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=lee-smith-egypt-morsi It’s foolish to try to figure out people who hold irrational ideologies with a rational mind. Figuring out who’s who among the Islamists in Egypt, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq is extremely difficult. Islamists bomb, burn and shoot each other in even greater numbers than they do the infidels and their holy days and mosques are centers of the most violence. The Syrian Rebels are not necessarily Syrian or rebels in the real sense, they are a combination of Islamist fighters from all over the muslim world, EU, Asia, North and South America. The best guess is that the rebellions, protests and killings are just the same old Sunni vs Shiite war that started very soon after Mohammed died and has continued for centuries.… Read more »

Conniption Fitz “Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord’s anointed, saying, “Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!” HE who sits in the Heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. Then He will speak to them in His anger, and terrify them in His fury, saying, “But as for ME, I have installed MY King upon Zion, MY holy mountain.” (Psalm2:1-6). The Lord God Almighty is just allowing a little thinning of the herds, so to speak, until HIS King comes with a rod of iron to shatter them like earthenware.  One mans opinion, freely given and worth almost that much
Egypt
is still in a revolutionary stage, now comes the counter-revolution.
The Egyptians are still trying to figure out what they want, what kind
of government they want. Mainly what they want right now is http://therightscoop.com/egypts-top-military-officer-president-mohamed-morsy-no-longer-the-leader-of-egypt/#lf_comment=84305036, and a return of the tourists. Also a government that is not a cesspool of corruption.
Other than the whole Armageddon End Times thing, a very good take on this part of the world.

Protesters for, protesters against, office titles, written constitutions . . . but I’ve noticed in history, the side controlling the guns tends to win.  (Let us good citizens never be disarmed.)
Another ‘revolution’. These are common.
Establishing constitutional republics, not at all common.
So in Egypt we now have new leaders to send billions of dollars and weapons to.
‘Bought’ friends, are not friends. I have little hope their loyalty will last past how much money we continually pay them.
And we can not, nor should not, give them billions of dollars every year for ever.
God bless our republic and it’s patriots.

Egypt’s
new caretaker president Adly Mansour had been head of the Supreme
Constitutional Court for just two days when the army named him leader of
the Arab world’s most populous state.
He takes the helm of a
nation riven by deep divisions over the army’s ouster of its first
freely elected president Mohamed Morsi following days of deadly clashes
between his Islamist supporters and their increasingly numerous
opponents.
Ironically he was named by Morsi himself to Egypt’s
top judicial post, which, following the army’s suspension of the
constitution, catapulted him into political power.
The
67-year-old father of three, who won a scholarship to France’s most
prestigious institute of higher education, the Ecole Nationale de
l’Administration, was a long-serving judge under the regime of veteran
strongman Hosni Mubarak.

– Tunisian opposition activists have launched their own version of
Egypt’s Tamarud protest movement, whose campaign to remove President
Mohamed Mursi drew millions onto the streets and led to an army
ultimatum for the Islamist leader to share power.
The youthful,
little known leaders of Tunisian Tamarud (Rebel) hope to galvanize
opposition to their own Islamist-led government which, like Mursi, came
to power after an uprising in 2011 swept an autocratic leader from
office.
Like its Egyptian namesake, the Tunisian group accuses
the Islamists of trying to usher in a religious state that smothers
personal freedoms and failing to drag the economy out of crisis.

Object lesson: Liberty is won in the street not bought and paid for at a ballot box.
Democracy is a tricky freedom. It does not guarantee anything.
Only actual Republic powers (ultimate power resides with the People through the Constitution) are necessary for Freedom.
How the democratic process works is indicative of Liberty or Tyranny.  We have the tyranny of government bought and paid for my elites and special interest lobbies and protected by the two dominant parties.
Americans have to understand that the ideologies of the two dominant elite, statist parties are not ever going to do the right thing. And those two parties will grind the Constitution and the economy into dust before they leave the scene.
We need to put into the streets 20 million people disgusted with all of Washington, all three branches and all the bureaucrats and Federal unions  and get rid of these tyrants.
