A Florida elementary school teacher showed her 5th-grade class a Disney movie with an openly gay character who has a crush on another male character.
Then on CNN today, this teacher claimed that a specific parent was ignorant for complaining about this and suggested parental rights “are gone” when their child is in the public school system.

It is true that students will talk about all kinds of stuff amongst each other, but that doesn’t excuse introducing a topic like this via a Disney movie in the classroom and thus encouraging those conversations.
That’s what this parent/school board member means when she’s complaining that a movie like this can open doors for conversations that have no place in the classroom. And she’s absolutely right.
The teacher claims in a TikTok that gay character’s crush is only mentioned at the beginning of the movie and never brought up again. But that’s just not true:
