Eric Cantor: If the Senate creates a budget we’ll raise debt ceiling for 3 months

Eric Cantor says the House will raise the debt ceiling for 3 months if Harry Reid will produce a budget for the first time in four years:

Fitch Ratings agency recently said, if the debt limit is raised without substantive deficit reduction, our nation’s credit rating could be downgraded. The President’s plan to simply borrow more money without any reform in Washington puts us all at risk.

The first step to fixing this problem is to pass a budget that reduces spending. The House has done so, and will again. The Democratic Senate has not passed a budget in almost four years, which is unfair to hardworking taxpayers who expect more from their representatives. That ends this year.

We must pay our bills and responsibly budget for our future. Next week, we will authorize a three month temporary debt limit increase to give the Senate and House time to pass a budget. Furthermore, if the Senate or House fails to pass a budget in that time, Members of Congress will not be paid by the American people for failing to do their job. No budget, no pay.

This is the first step to get on the right track, reduce our deficit and get focused on creating better living conditions for our families and children. It’s time to come together and get to work.

  1. Eric Cantor, have you become a RINO? I can’t believe these republicans are caving in. All reps should lose their pay for failing to represent US with US in mind…”taxation with representation is tyranny….”

  2. I think you interpreted it wrongly.

I believe what he means is that they will raise the debt ceiling to give them time to come up with a budget, then tie a further extension directly to the budget. Could work, could backfire. The whipping is crucial.

  3. I see the gutless GOP is still operating in cave mode. The GOP needs to go the way of the whigs.Time for a new party.

  4. How about no temporary increase in the debt ceiling and a demand that the senate pass a budget, or they don’t get paid? How about that? No increase in the debt ceiling, guys. Start there. When you can manage that much, I’ll listen to you. I don’t know how stupid you people in the GOP think we are, but apparently, you assume conservative voters are as ignorant as Obama voters. Think again.

    1. Because the Senators and RINOs are gonna let us have our cake and eat it too.

No matter what Boehner and McConnell say, the 30+ RINOs to their left would side with Democrats in any attempt to pass a clean debt ceiling increase with nothing in return. It’ll just be messier for everyone, but a lot more beneficial to the Democrats in the end.

  5. I’ll believe it when I see it. I’d bet my olny cow and two chickens that they’ll talk tough, but when the media attacks them like a pack of jackals, and Emperor Soetoro brings in a backdrop of retirement home old folks in wheelchairs, a bunch of sniveling kids, and some actors dressed up in mock military garb and proceeds to villify them into a pile of dust; without getting one single concession, the Republican’s will fold up like a cheap camping chair. They’d be better off just heading home with their tail between their legs and save us all the useless drama. With the media totally under their control, Barry and his bunch are going to have their way. Unless something drastically changes, no one can, or will stop them.

  6. “The Democratic Senate has not passed a budget in almost four years, which is unfair to hardworking taxpayers who expect more from their representatives. That ends this year. “

    UNFAIR!!!!????

What an elitist putz. It’s f’ing illegal and we should be taking to the streets of DC to oust these criminals.

    1. I don’t know how to explain the tolerance American’s have. I guess we just aren’t hurting enough yet – but it will happen. By then pitchforks in DC will be too late, we will have lost the country. Absolutely sickening!

  7. Keep waiting. Senate Dems don’t won’t any spending caps. I want to see the Republicans show a back bone. You control the purse. Control it and shut the lazy mf’s down in DC. Trust me, private sector folks don’t care about the govt anyway.

  8. I really do not understand why Right Scoop, a supposedly “conservative” site, continues to report this gobbledy-gook bull pippy. The GOP “leadership” is totally caving here, and yet this is being reported as “good news.”

The GOP is agreeing to raise the debt ceiling on the “promise” of the Senate producing a budget, in three months! Anyone with half a brain knows that there will be no budget. When was the last time the Democ-rats kept their “promise?” They will just totally ignore this “promise.”

You will note that Obamao, through his “spokesperson,” is very happy to hear this. That should give anyone with one working brain cell a clue that the GOP is caving, unilaterally.

The implied threat of cutting off Congressional salaries is as empty as the heads of the member of the GOP. They have threatened more times than the “boy who cried wolf,” and have done absolutely nothing. The Deomoc-rats would have to be insane to believe that the House would follow through … on anything.

History tells them that the GOP will do nothing but cave again when the time comes.

More GOP bullcrap. If Boehner, Cantor, and McCarthy are for this, it should be anathema to any, and every conservative.

The GOP credo, “How can we fool them today?”

“Retreat” was the most apt name for the recent GOP get-together in Virginia.

2014 cannot come soon enough. We must be more active than at any time in our history to get this political ruling class out of our lives once and for all. Every single one of them.

Throw them all out! The status quo must go!

Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see.

    Illegitimi non carborundum.

    Barracudas Maximus.

    1. The elephant and donkey are two sides of a Progressive coin, but I am not seeing that TRS posted this as “good news”.

      1. sDee … You are quite correct.

All of the above intro was from a statement, of some sort, by Cantor, and TRS just presented it as is. So, I hereby apologize to all, and especially TRS.

That doesn’t change my sentiments, however. They all stand as written.

In fact, it is worse than I first understood. They are not even getting a “promise.” They are just going to give a 3-month debt ceiling increase, with their threat to do something if the Senate doesn’t pass a budget. A completely toothless threat based upon their totally gutless past performances.

So, instead of getting one huge debt ceiling increase, Obamao gets a series of 3-month debt increases as far as the eye can see.

Things will not change until these “enablers” are sent home in disgrace, and replaced by real constitutional conservatives who will fight for their, and our, freedom.

Throw them all out! The status quo must go!

Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see.

        Illegitimi non carborundum.

        Barracudas Maximus.

  9. Scoop. I don’t understand what the GOP is saying. That all Reid has to do is pass a budget and the GOP will raise the Debt limit to however much Obama wants? Why? Because, they are actually dumb enough to think the Dems would take the blame for bigger debt?

What about the sequester? So, they won’t even go for cutting spending?

    1. It doesn’t need to mean anything – Cantor’s in the news with this, and that is all that matters to him.

    2. Actually, Cantor is saying all reid has to do is say the Senate will try to pass a Budget and the GOP will raise the Debt Ceiling for 3 Months. If that try fails, then Senators pay will be stopped. Yea, they think we’re stupid… If you mean after the three months, well…when was the last time any Politician kept a promise more than three seconds.

      1. WHAT? He just has to promise to pass a budget? Oh, brother! I am starting to hate the GOP as much as the Rat party!

  10. Color me unimpressed.

It’s the LAW that they pass a budget. It’s their primary duty to protect our borders and have a budget.

Doing neither? If the sheeple weren’t asleep at the stick, they’d be rioting in the streets.

    1. Just wait. The days of starving ghetto rats dropping dead in the streets is not that far away. Can’t cash a welfare check or food stamps off of a closed and empty account. That day is coming quickly. I hope sooner rather than later as I have lost all hope of saving our country, much like a drug addict, until we hit true rock bottom. We’re close. Then the spend thrifts will be imprisoned and sanity can rein again.

      1. I’ve been thinking of the alcoholic metaphor as well. Obama really is an impotent tyrant wannabe, but they elected him anyway…twice!

The GOP responds by going more middle-of-the-road than ever, and the people shout all the louder “Give us Barabbas!”

Mike, the children are in charge. They love it this way.

But don’t think that Tea Party or GOP, or any sane person will escape the rage when the crap finally hits the fan.

  11. This is very funny because the NYT recently ran a piece stating that if the debt limit was NOT raised then one of the major credit rating agencies was going to downgrade our debt. There was no mention whatsoever of reducing spending. Do they really think we can just keep spending and raising the debt ceiling without consequences? Are they really that stupid?

      1. Actually, since January 3rd, 2007 was the day that the democraps took control of both houses of congress.

    1. No, they are not.

      But they think we are.

For the most part, they are right.

Americans will keep on watching “Dancing with the Stars” until the lights go out and foreign tanks roll in our streets. Then they’ll all wonder what happened.

    2. To answer a question with a question is not polite but I’ll do it anyway. Have they considered the stupidity of this plan yet? Then why should they EVER consider it. We must first default and go bankrupt, then arrest and prosecute those responsible. Tear down the current federal government and start over with fresh faces, fresh ideas and Maybe try to follow the constitution again.

That is how I think we pull out of this. Sadly, we must all suffer through a national degrading and poverty first but we can take over easily enough AFTER we hit that point.

  12. Anytime National Tea Party representatives. We are waiting for you tell Reibus and RINOs like him to get lost!

  13. It’s a start but only a start. I think they should have included a balanced budget amendment as well.

Not paying Congress I like but can this be done or is he just making empty threats?

      1. Do you really think the House and the Senate can come up with a budget? Notice I said a balanced budge amendment should have been included. If they’re not willing to do that then they’re blowing smoke.

  14. No compromise. No conditions. No caving in Rinos.

Rewarding that Ahole for simply doing his job? Idiocy.

  15. What a blithering eejit!

Raise the debt ceiling if Reid produces a budget? How long has Mr Cantor been a Congressman? Hasn’t he learned yet that you don’t give the dems something for nothing – they will promise, then dither, then do nothing – while the idiotic GOp has raised the debt ceiling.

    Stuff it.
    No budget – no money.
Do some industrial-strength arm twisting, now!

    1. I agree. We, conservatives should reciprocate the democrats version of negotiating. Lock the F-ing door and tell them to bugger off.

    2. Yes, stuff it! Haven’t we done this debt-ceiling song and dance before???

“Oh, seniors won’t get social security because of those danged Republicans. Firefighters won’t get paid and our children will suffer.”

      Repeat.

    1. He makes valid points, and I understand what he is arguing here.

However, Pelosi and Reid did not have this view when Bush won. It’s a stark contrast between the two parties. The liberals never stop fighting. We do.

Of course, the main difference between the two situations is that the Dems have a billion dollar PR operation on their side (MSM). So, whatever they do, it’s always validated on Meet the Press, Good Morning America, all the evening broadcasts, etc.

      1. Yes, yes, yes.

And I’ll do you one better: Dems get their news from COMEDY CENTRAL. I wish I were kidding, but FOX and Comedy news shows are killing the Lefty media outlets.

I do NOT hate Democrats. They are my fellow-citizens and they deserve to have honest news. We all do.

  16. How about not raising the Debt Ceiling and still not pay the Senators until they do their Constitutionally mandated duty and produce a Budget. Oh, and make that no pay retroactive.

  17. Cantor sounds just like a co-dependent battered woman pleading with her drug-alcohol addicted abuser.

Full of false hope and fantasies that the abuser can be reasoned with.

What a pathetic joke of a party the GOP has become.

  18. “Furthermore, if the Senate or House fails to pass a budget in that time, Members of Congress will not be paid by the American people for failing to do their job. No budget, no pay.”

    I like this

    1. I don’t – the order is wrong.

      It should be:
      No budget – no money.
When there’s a budget, we’ll raise the debt ceiling for three months.

      1. No it should be:

        No budget-no money
and only if there is a budget then we’ll consider raising the debt ceiling for three months.

        1. Agree – that’s what Cantor ought to’ve said.

I think you and me would have made far better congress critters!

      2. how about adding that for every day the Senate has refused to pass a budget (since 2009) they are docked pay. They aren’t doing their job, why should they get paid for it. This should be retroactive considering they are not upholding the terms of their office.

        1. Good idea.

And for every day the senate doesn’t pass a budget – cut some expensive stuff from the federal budget, like EPA and such. Stop pay to Obama’s czars …

I bet we could come up with a lot of ideas.
          Tell your congress critters!
