Facebook removes RINO hunting ad by Republican US Senate candidate

Former Missouri governor and US Senate candidate Eric Greitens released an ad yesterday where he calls on the MAGA crowd to hunt RINOs.

Greitens is running for the seat that is being vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Roy Blunt. The primary is on August 2nd.

Here’s the ad:

According to Fox Business, Facebook took down the ad:

Facebook removed a campaign video Monday from Missouri Republican Senate candidate Eric Greitens over a violation of the platform’s rules against violence.

“Join the MAGA crew. Get a RINO hunting permit. There’s no bagging limit, no tagging limit and it doesn’t expire until we save our country,” he said in the clip.

Facebook said the video was taken down because it violated policies “prohibiting violence and incitement.”

Twitter allowed the video to remain on their platform…

Twitter allowed Greitens’ ad to stay on the platform because, while it violated its rules on abusive behavior, the clip was in the “public’s interest,” although retweets, likes and replies have been restricted.

Greitens also has family baggage that’s said to be putting a drag on his candidacy:

The new ad comes as Greitens is struggling to move past allegations of domestic abuse made in a sworn affidavit filed in March by his ex-wife amid their child custody dispute.

His former spouse claims he physically abused her and one of their children. She also said his threats to kill himself if she did not provide “specific public support to him” demonstrated “unstable and coercive behavior” leading to others having to intervene to limit his access to firearms, court documents state.

Greitens has denied the allegations, but they have hurt him on the campaign trail.

He resigned as governor in 2018 amid criminal investigations, and after he faced accusations of having an extramarital affair with his hairdresser and snapping a compromising picture of her so she would refrain from speaking about it.

Have they hurt him on the campaign trail? I looked up the latest polls and Greitens is leading all the other candidates by an average of +3.5 points, with one poll showing his lead as much as +9 points last month. The latest poll came earlier this month and showed him leading by +6.

With August 2nd coming in a little over a month it looks like Greitens is trying to cement his lead with the new ad, which will get more views because it’s become controversial. Clearly the ad is just a metaphor, but it is a little bizarre because it doesn’t really say much about him or his candidacy. It’s just about ‘hunting RINOs’.

While the media and big tech is decrying the ad, I doubt it will hurt him with the Republican base. Heck, it might actually give him the push he wants to dominate in August.
