FBI ARRESTS leader of militia that apprehended illegals at border!

So it turns out that one of the leaders of The United Constitutional Patriots is a felon and as such, was not allowed to wield guns, as he did when he apprehended illegals at the border.

So they’ve arrested him:

A man who reportedly leads a right-wing militia group that was seen on a viral video this week detaining migrants in New Mexico while heavily armed has been arrested for illegal possession of a firearm following a previous felony conviction.

The FBI’s field office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, released a statement Saturday confirming the arrest of Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 69, of Flora Vista, N.M. on a charge of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition.

Hopkins’ court date is scheduled for Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the U.S. District Court in Las Cruces, N.M., according to the FBI’s statement.

“Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 69, of Flora Vista, N.M., was arrested today on a federal complaint charging him with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. The FBI arrested Hopkins in Sunland Park, N.M., with the assistance of the Sunland Park Police Department,” read the FBI’s statement.

No additional information on Hopkins’s involvement with the militia group was released Saturday by the FBI, but New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas (D) asserted in a statement that Hopkins was one of dozens of militia group members seen on video this week confronting hundreds of minors close to the U.S.-Mexico border.

In a statement, US Customs and Border Protection said the agency does not endorse private groups or organizations taking enforcement matters into their own hands.

“Interference by civilians in law enforcement matters could have public safety and legal consequences for all parties involved,” a CBP official said. “Border Security operations are complex and require highly trained professionals with adequate resources to protect the country.”

If you’re gonna go impersonate a law enforcement officer and kidnap illegals, it’s probably best to make sure you’re not a felon in possession of a fun illegally. Just a protip for better living.

  1. Making a citizens arrest until law enforcement arrives is not illegal or wrong, nor is it kidnapping.

  2. How can they be “interfering with law enforcement matters” if the whole reason they are there is because of the lack of law enforcement?

    The reason these groups exist and are on the border is because politicians like NM AG Balderas, NM Gov Grisham, and the federal government refuse to do their job of protecting citizens and defending the border.

    To be clear, these aren’t the decisions of ICE, CBP, or individual LEOs — politicians allocate funding, resources, and authorize manning, and that is where responsibility lies for failing to address the first priority of government: security.

And I’m not surprised there’s been a lot of pressure on this group – including erroneously calling them “radical” or “right-wing”. That being said, I still applaud these private citizens for doing what our government has so miserably failed to do – keep the invaders out (or apprehended).

  7. The militias up here, with me, actually do background checks on applicants. You cannot be a felon, and you cannot even be tangentially involved, or associated, in any way, with a hate group. Maybe they didn’t have the same standards, or maybe they did, but he exempted himself. Or, maybe he was mentally ill. In any event, I’m still not happy about CBP telling citizens what kinds of weapons they can, or can’t, carry, and the fact that the militias had to be out there doing the job that we pay the DHS to do. If he’s a felon, no, he shouldn’t have had that weapon. However, he shouldn’t have had to involve himself in border defense, either, if we’d’ve had a government that was serious about it.

It’s called citizens arrest! 2nd,they weren’t “kidnapping” them,they were apprehending them and turning them over to the border patrol!     While I don’t support outside-the-law “frontier justice” – and I’m not saying that’s what this New Mexico “militia” is – it seems the authorities came down awfully hard and fast on them. But the Sanctuary groups have been getting a pass for YEARS.

    OK, so why do we have a police force at all, and why is it called a police force? Well, in America, it’s all about the individual and individual rights. Life, liberty, property and the freedom to do pretty much whatever you want so long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. When such a thing happens, we have empowered a police force to capture and detain the offender under color of law – both for the infraction against the State’s laws as well as to provide opportunity and availability for the aggrieved to seek restitution.

    This is why a police force is a necessary part of civil society (for all you jackholes who think I’m anti-cop, this is precisely why I’m not). The individual requires freedom of action, and in America this is guaranteed by civil right. Depriving it from someone is an act of force against them – which we do not permit (except to self-defend against immediate aggression). Why? Because then it’s essentially anarchy.

    The police are the only one empowered by the state to use force against the citizenry (THIS, by the way, is why we should be highly critical of them and their proper use of it). They have a monopoly on it. And they have it for a reason. Because in a free society, in America, we cannot trust our fellow man not to intentionally or negligently deprive each other’s rights. So, we establish a group who has a legitimate permission to use force against others. BUT we circumscribe it so they can’t just run amok and become oppressive. As with all things government, they (NOT WE) are regulated. We act by right, they act by permission.

    By usurping this role, these militia folks are undermining a core Constitutional principle of American society and government. They are utilizing force against others, which they do not have the right to do. Nor should they. The right to use of force is granted only by permission, and we did not give it to them.

    It’s proper to shut them down, and UCBP is 100% correct in their statement.

These militia members have been operating on the border for a long time. They merely detain non-citizens that get past the BP and have the BP pick them up. Obviously our cops, BP, and Army have not been able to handle the influx. It is time for all of us to wake up to the fact that we have been invaded.

That was his mistake and he should have known better. His creating a militia to defend our border was not a mistake. In fact it is his Constitutional right to defend our border.

This group consists of former military and police so they are eminently as qualified as any ICE agent is.

    The militia is a very important, even integral, part of US history and republican culture. Without an armed, organized citizenry the republic cannot stand.

        be affected.Obama came to Washington from Chicago and brought in Rahm Emanual and the rest of the Boys .Then we started seeing the likes of Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch clamping down on the Justice system.Then Obama forced many of our top Military to retire and replaced them with less experienced a more liberal command staff Thanks Hidyho,sorry for the Delay.Was at the Cemetery visiting a very special person.
