FBI serves a search warrant on Senator Richard Burr’s home over dumping of stocks

The FBI served a search warrant last night on Senator Richard Burr’s home in DC over his dumping of stocks earlier this year before the pandemic:

FOX NEWS – Federal agents on Wednesday served a search warrant to Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., at his Washington-area home in part of the government’s investigation into his stock sales that were made early in the coronavirus outbreak, according to a report.

The exclusive report by the Los Angeles Times, citing unnamed officials, said agents seized a cellphone. A second official said agents served an earlier warrant to obtain information from the senator’s iCloud account. A law enforcement source told the paper that the Justice Department was reviewing communication between Burr and his broker.

Fox News reached out to Burr’s office for comment and emailed his lawyer. The FBI did not immediately return a phone call to the Times and Burr’s office declined to comment for the paper.

Burr has denied any wrongdoing and requested an ethics review of the sales.

The phone seizure was significant because it means the judge who signed off on the warrant was persuaded by federal agents and prosecutors that there was probable cause that a crime was committed, the L.A. Times reported.

On the one hand I’m glad the FBI is investigating. It did look somewhat suspicious considering the amount of stock and that market tanked shortly afterward.

However, I’m also a bit leery considering the abuse of power we witnessed from the highest levels of the FBI. What those men did, aside from abusing their power, was wreck the reputation of the agency.

I just hope Burr gets a fair investigation and will not be subjected to abuses like we’ve seen before.
