FreedomWorks’ Matt Kibbe patiently endures a boneheaded lecture from Chris Matthews

This is a pretty entertaining “Hardball” segment, featuring FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe and host Chris Matthews. And by “entertaining” I mean a “maddening reminder of why none of us actually watch the program.”

The rub here is that Matthews simply doesn’t grasp the concept of limited resources – especially as it applies to government spending. Nor does he understand the technical difference between the government defaulting on a bond and “not paying its bills.” Why Kibbe even bothered trying to educate Matthews is hard to figure, but God bless him for making the attempt. One thing I might have asked Matthews if I were Kibbe is how is it that our credibility in the world is harmed by, say, not funding the Department of Education, but everything’s copacetic if we just raise the debt ceiling yet again and keep right on borrowing and spending like there’s no tomorrow?

I pared this down a tad from the full interview, because I know Matthews has a tendency to induce computer-punching. So don’t forget to thank me in the comments for that. But make sure to watch this clip to the end to hear Matthews go off on a bizarre little rant about placards, or something.
