Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli spoke yesterday at FreePAC Kentucky, a grassroots event sponsored by FreedomWorks.
“What we’re doing here is we’re suing the federal government – the President, the head of the NSA, the FBI – because they are taking your private information, and mine, and FreedomWorks’, and every American who makes or receives a phone call – so if you don’t make or receive phone calls don’t worry about it, this doesn’t apply to you. But everybody else has a stake in this case and in fact we just filed in the last week or so in this case a week ago to certify the class of everyone who makes or receives phone calls in this country, so if things go well, soon I’ll be your lawyer. And what we have said is that not only is this program wrong but it’s unconstitutional under the fourth amendment of the Constitution.”
Cuccinelli goes on to quote President Obama who was against such practices when he was a Senator and only defends them now that they’re his, and says the lesson is that government can abuse power, they will abuse it.
It’s an informative speech, and it’s the kind of issue and citizen action that every American should be able to admire and support regardless of party. This is the people standing up to the government and saying no, you will not go this far.
