“Get Tough!” – Trump responds to McConnell blocking $2000 payments

President Trump just responded to McConnell’s blocking today of the unanimous consent request to pass the $2000 COVID relief direct payments:

“Unless Republicans have a death wish, and it is also the right thing to do, they must approve the $2000 payments ASAP. $600 IS NOT ENOUGH! Also, get rid of Section 230 – Don’t let Big Tech steal our Country, and don’t let the Democrats steal the Presidential Election. Get tough!”

Trump clearly wants this to pass as quick as possible, but I am glad McConnell objected to passing it via unanimous consent. That’s the single worst way to pass legislation because Senators don’t have to go on record with an actual vote.

The American people should get to see who votes for it and who doesn’t, no matter on which side of the issue you come down. It’s the proper way to do it.

That said, if McConnell is going to allow the bill to come to the floor for a vote, he should do it sooner than later. I do wonder, however, if his delay has something to do with him putting a price tag on the much larger direct payments. For example, he could demand action on Section 230 in conjunction with the direct payments. I guess we’ll find out what he’s up to later this week.
