Well. That’s not good.
The Telegraph reports today that Abdolrahim Mousavi, head of the Iranian army, issued a dire threat to Israel on Saturday, just one day after Iranian Brigadier General Hossein Salami likewise promised their destruction.
The threats are part of growing tensions between the two countries fueled by, among many other things, the conflict in Syria. Aside from the ongoing tension over the Golan heights on the Syrian border, there is the civil war in Syria and the battle against ISIS to boot. The chaos and battles in Syria are international in scope and have been a source of tension not only between these two nations but all of the Middle East and, of course, between Russia and the United States and NATO allies.
Mousavi’s words were carried by the Tasnir News Agency, reports The Telegraph.
At a ceremony in Tehran, Mr Mousavi warned that any acts of war against his country would put his country on the offensive.
“Hands are on the trigger and missiles are ready and will be launched at any moment that the enemy tries to carry out its sinister plot against (our) lands,” Tasnim news agency quoted him as saying.
His comments came a day after the Iranian Brigadier General Hossein Salami also issued a threat and said Israel could be destroyed if tensions escalate to war.
Salami added Israel would “fade away” in the next 25 years despite the support it receives from the United States.
Here’s more from UPI.
“When the arrogant powers create a sanctuary for the Zionist regime to continue survival, we shouldn’t allow one day to be added to the ominous and illegitimate life of this regime,” Mousavi said in a Fars News Agency report. “The Army will move hand in hand with the IRGC so that the arrogant system will collapse and the Zionist regime will be annihilated,” he said.
And General Salami’s quote;
“If any war happens, it will definitely be followed by your annihilation,” Salami warned Israel on Friday.
Salami added in part of a Tasnim News Agency report posted on Twitter: “North and west of Israel are at the intersection of fire; you will not escape … You live in the dragon’s mouth.”
Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu took it very seriously and released a forceful video statement.
I hope this message reaches every Iranian—young and old, religious and secular, man and woman. pic.twitter.com/ieC2Aajmzl— Benjamin Netanyahu (@netanyahu) January 21, 2017
As you can see, stuff in the world is going great, guys.
