I’ve been reading recently that the best anyone can expect from a pandemic stimulus check in the new aid bill, like we saw earlier this year, is about $600 or $700 dollars. But Senator Hawley is trying to double that number to $1200 and intends to force a floor vote on it tomorrow:
Tomorrow I will go to the Senate floor to ask for an up or down vote on my bill to provide a direct payment of $1200 to working Americans, $2400 for couples, $500 for kids. This is the #covid relief working families need

According to The Hill, “Under the Senate rules any one senator can ask for a vote but any one senator can object.”
Hawley is suggesting he might slow down the process to speed up the bill if someone objects and he doesn’t get his vote:
Hawley, in a separate interview with reporters in the Capitol, didn’t rule out that someone blocking his vote could impact if he lets leadership speed up the eventual agreement.
In order to speed up votes in the Senate they’ll need cooperation from every senator.
“It might,” Hawley said. “I’ve said all along I want to have a vote.”
I honestly don’t understand how the stimulus checks have been cut in half with this new aid bill, when it was Pelosi who was demanding $2 trillion earlier this year. Not that we can really afford another big stimulus. Heck, we couldn’t afford what we spent earlier this year but we had to do it after the government shut everything down. I’d say we need this one too as far as businesses and unemployment assistance. But boy are we racking up the debt this year.
