Herman Cain’s potential nomination to the fed just got DOOMED

Trump said last week that Herman Cain was his pick for a position on the Federal Reserve.

While Cain technically hasn’t been nominated yet, his path to getting confirmed now appears to be doomed.

Four GOP Senators have now come out against his nomination:

Here’s more from CNBC:

Republican Sen. Kevin Cramer, N.D., on Thursday became the fourth member of his party’s caucus to tell reporters he would vote against a nomination for former pizza executive Herman Cain to join the board of the Federal Reserve.

“If I had to [vote] today, I would vote no” on Cain, Cramer told reporters Thursday on Capitol Hill.

Cain has yet to be formally nominated by President Donald Trump, but last week Trump announced that Cain was his pick to fill one of two open seats on the central bank’s board. Trump intends to nominate conservative economist and author Stephen Moore to the other vacant spot.

Cramer’s announcement all but doomed Cain’s chances of being confirmed by the Senate if Trump were to formally nominate him. Earlier this week, GOP Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Cory Gardner of Colorado, and newly minted Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah all told reporters they could not support Cain’s nomination.

With only 53 Republicans in the Senate, opposition from four of them would mean that Cain could only count on 49 votes to confirm him, presuming, of course, that no Democrats crossed the aisle to support him. Without a 51 vote majority, Cain could not be confirmed.

So far we don’t know why these four senators oppose Cain’s nomination, but my best guess is that it’s because he’s a loyal Trump supporter and they feel like that compromises him, that he’ll just do Trump’s bidding and not what’s right in the eyes of the country.

Again that’s just speculation. It may also have something to do with his failed run for the presidency in 2012.

Since these four have already come out against Cain, you can bet there’s a few more weak Republicans waiting to fold as well. We haven’t heard from Susan Collins yet, but I’d be willing to be she wouldn’t vote for Cain either.
