HE’S RUNNING: Sessions makes it official and releases a campaign ad…

Jeff Sessions is officially running for the Senate tonight, which he announced on Fox News tonight:

AL.COM – Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions made official tonight what others speculated about for a few days, that he is making a last-minute leap into the race for his old seat in the U.S. Senate.

Sessions, 72, announced tonight he will run for the Republican nomination for the seat now held by Democrat Doug Jones. Friday is the last day to qualify for the March 3 primary. He made the announcement on his website.

“When President Trump took on Washington, only one Senator out of a hundred had the courage to stand with him: me,” Sessions said. “I was the first to support President Trump. I was his strongest advocate. I still am. We must make America great again.

“Our freedoms have never been under attack like they are today. We have major party candidates for President campaigning on socialism, confiscating firearms, and closing down churches they disagree with. I’ve battled these forces my entire life, and I’m not about to surrender now. Let’s go!”

Sessions joins a field of Republican candidates who announced they were running months ago. It includes U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne of Fairhope, former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville, former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, Secretary of State John Merrill, state Rep. Arnold Mooney of Birmingham, and businessman Stanley Adair of Haleyville.

Sessions has even released a campaign ad touting his support for Trump:

He’s definitely got some convincing to do and he knows it, which is why he’s emphasizing that he’s never said a cross word about Trump after he left the administration and that he still supports Trump as he always has.

Can’t wait to see the polling on the race in Alabama.
