It turns out that Highland park, Illinois has had a so-called ‘assault weapons ban’ in place since 2014 and it is currently still the law.
This was revealed in an interview this morning with the leftist mayor of the city:

When asked about the gun used yesterday in the mass shooting, the mayor says she doesn’t know where the gun came from but says it was “legally obtained”.
She then claims we need to have a conversation about these mass shootings using ‘legally obtained guns’. Of course.
She went on to blame our ‘gun culture’ in the interview, which is absurd:

It was also reported last night that police said the gunman was “known to law enforcement”. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about that in the coming days.
